Fall 2023: Part-Time Children’s Educational Acting Instructor

Do you love working with and mentoring children? We are seeking an ENERGETIC and passionate Children's Educational Acting Instructor to join our Sparx team! This part time job is perfect for anyone who has acting or teaching interest (or wants to learn!) and has an evening job and/or is in school!

We currently are looking for an instructor who has all or some of the following availability for this Fall starting Mid October: *please only apply if you have availability for at least 1 of these shifts*

Shift Options:

Option 1) St.Cecilia Catholic School Afterschool 7-Week Program (355 Annette St./Bloor West Village)

(2:40 pm-4:40 pm) Tuesdays-Oct 10, 17, 24, 31, Nov 7, 14, 21

Pay: $55/shift flat rate

Option 2) John Wanless Public School Afterschool 7-Week Program (245 Fairlawn Ave-North Toronto/Bedford Park) Wednesdays-Oct 11, 18, 25, Nov 1, 8, 15, 22 from 3:00-4:40 pm. Pay: $55/shift flat rate

Option 3) Vincent Massey Academy SPECIAL DAY WORKSHOPS (Only 4 weeks + directing their show for their Winter Concert (68 Daisy Rd-Etobicoke/Lakeshore)

(Teach 4 different classes with 13 kids each Friday-Fridays-Nov 17, 24, Dec 1, 8)

* Grade 1: 9:00-10am

• Grade 1/2 split: 10-11am
• Grade 3/4 split: 1:45-2:45pm
• Pay: $30/Class= $120/day
• Break
• Grade 2/3 split: 11:15am-12:15pm
• Break

PLUS: Tuesday, December 19th from 4:30-6pm. *The performance!*

(Franklin Horner Community Center-Etobicoke)

Pay: $55/shift flat rate

You will educate students using our unique Sparx Studio curriculum that is made up of enjoyable acting activities and objectives from the Ontario School Curriculum. At Sparx, we teach valuable social-emotional skills such as how to deal with bullying, anxiety, inclusion and public safety. Our classes are designed for the kids to have fun and learn at the same time! Our mission is to decrease the growing number of youth mental health issues through our fun and educational programs.

Contract Position Details:

1) Seasonal Contracts will be for a minimum of 7 weeks/school/season (Fall, Winter & Spring) at various schools in the GTA. We aim to book schools Monday-Friday as written above.

2)  Pay is $55/school shift. This includes lunch or after school programs. (The max.shift per school would be 2 hours from your arrival to when you leave.) Additionally, we offer $60/school shift if your commute to the location takes longer than 45 minutes.

Qualifications:

- At least 2 years of experience in teaching or being a leader of a group of children in a structured and professional environment.

- Strong passion for teaching and working with children.

- Energy! We need someone who can pump up the kids and have fun while they work.

- Superb management skills. (We often have kids who are very shy, have been bullied, are anxious, etc. We are looking for educators who can confidently handle these situations.)

- A valid police check/vulnerable sector check conducted within the last year or full agreement to do one upon being hired ASAP.

- Valid certification in Standard First Aid Level C including Infant and Child CPR/AED.

- Acting experience is a plus but not mandatory.
