CPA Atlantic School of Business

Regardless of industry sector, a CPA designation enables forward-thinking, leadership and the application of knowledge toward important financial and business decisions. Highly qualified professionals in the accounting, business, and finance fields will always be in demand.


With a CPA designation, individuals are trained to meet Canadian and international market needs while providing the space to grow. CPA Atlantic School of Business provides pathways to those wishing to obtain the CPA designation. Successful graduates of the CPA Atlantic School of Business will have met the requirements of a challenging and rigorous CPA pre-certification program.


Role Profile:

The President and CEO is the most senior administrator, responsible for providing leadership and general supervision of the organization's operations. Reporting to the Board of Directors and having four (4) direct reports, the President and CEO will hold primary responsibility for the organization's day-to-day management per strategies, plans and policies approved by the Board.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Serving as the primary spokesperson and representative for the organization and acting as a liaison between the organization and business/government communities
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors, Chief Executive Officers (and Chairs) of Atlantic Provincial and Territorial Boards, Government of Nova Scotia, Atlantic Provincial and Territorial Government, Industry, and Post-Secondary Institutions, Employers, and National and Provincial CPA-related committees.
  • Providing general management and oversight to the team
  • Implement governance and related documents (mandate, role and responsibilities as represented by our By-laws, Education Agreements) in collaboration with provincial and territorial boards representing significant stakeholders.
  • Organizational Performance includes ensuring that the performance management process supports the organization's strategic direction and the development of future leaders within the organization.
  • Leading/introducing innovative technology aimed at streamlining operations.
  • Recruitment of CPA students and delivery of the nationally developed CPA pre-certification program in Atlantic Canada and Bermuda
  • Promoting a positive culture within the organization
  • Leading stakeholder relations by building and maintaining solid relationships with key stakeholders, working in collaboration with CPA bodies in Atlantic and Bermuda
  • Creating and managing the organization’s annual budget and continuously staying informed on the organization’s financial position to inform the Board of Directors
  • Management of a team of professionals supporting operational, functional, human resource, marketing, and financial activities of CPA Atlantic School of Business
  • Developing and maintaining internal and external relationships to secure positive, stable, and productive partnerships, government approvals and school recognition
  • Planning and strategy development, including creating annual business/operational plans and leading their implementation, with a focus on cost-effectively growing the CPA membership.
  • Represent CPA Atlantic School of Business on National Committees and special projects and related analysis of trends and best practices in the industry.


Education and Experience:

  • Bilingual (English and French) would be considered an asset.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, preferably supplemented by a professional designation in a nationally recognized profession (ex., CPA)
  • 7+ years of relevant leadership experience
