The Team


The Marketing Department in Canada is responsible for localization and commercialization of the global marketing priorities to suit the specific needs of Canadian consumers and retailers. Our Marketing team is responsible for adapting strategic and commercially viable marketing programs from globally developed strategies and contributing to retail executions for all of the brands in the Mattel portfolio (i.e. Barbie, Hot Wheels, Fisher-Price) by collaborating closely with sales, trade marketing, our global marketing and US marketing teams and key external partners. The Marketing team is the engine for Mattel Canada, acting as business managers, with responsibility for delivering business results through pricing, line selection, marketing communications, media investments and close partnership with all stakeholders in the business. In this team, you can expect to have a dynamic, fast paced and nimble role where you have true accountability and team collaboration.


The Opportunity


The Brand Manager (Associate Manager, Marketing) is the steward for the brand and business, responsible for adapting strategic and commercially viable marketing programs and retail executions for the Fisher-Price Partner Brands (Thomas & Friends, Imaginext, Fisher-Price Entertainment, Little People Collector, Power Wheels & New Opps) portfolio by collaborating closely with sales, trade marketing, our global marketing team, and key external partners. You will stretch between managing item level detail and creating higher level go-to-market strategies. In addition, you are empowered to identify opportunities to optimize sales and capture share as well analyzing the competitive environment to find opportunities and identify risks to maximize goals.


What Your Impact Will Be
  • Monitor effectiveness of sales and marketing programs in achieving objectives
  • Develop and monitor sales forecasts or quotas on an on-going basis to assist in planning and manufacturing of product
  • Specific strategies & tactics to accomplish the objectives covering all aspects of the marketing mix
  • Manage brand P&L and monitor spending to ensure expenditures are within budget and profit objectives are accomplished
  • Drive brand growth (sales and profitability) through targeted product selection (forecasts and inventory), supported by detailed analysis of business elements such as pricing, customer base and competition.
  • Direct and manage the execution of all facets of marketing, including product selection, pricing, promotion, consumer advertising, public relations and merchandising ensuring budget targets are met.
  • Action plans to implement brand strategies
  • Develop an annual marketing plan that will include
  • Communicate with global team members, licensors and US contacts regularly
  • Advertising, Promotion and Public Relations agencies and Merchandising Team
  • Interface with functional departments of the company to ensure brand objectives are met
  • Recommendations of business objectives both qualitative/quantitative
  • Understand trade needs and retailing operations to aid in driving the business team to meet their objectives. This will include consultation on special sales programs and competitive needs.
  • Sales, Finance, Licensing
  • Facilitate innovative issue resolution at the Associate Manager level. This should include ensuring the support and cooperation of other company departments in Canada and the U.S., as well as external suppliers and advertising agencies, etc.
  • Business review, market analysis
  • U.S. & Global counterparts/Marketing departments etc.
  • Drive consumer demand at retail and throughout the organization by adapting targeted marketing strategies and tactics that will ensure the achievement of corporate sales and profit goals.
  • Planning, Quality Control, Customer Service
  • Interface with sales team on product issues


What We’re Looking For


  • Manage complex projects quickly and adeptly with your understanding of business priorities
  • Build strong and sustainable business relationships internally and externally and to manage stakeholders at all levels
  • Multi-task with the ability to switch between strategic thinking and day to day administrative tasks
  • Strong web and PC skills including Excel, Word and Power Point
  • Demonstrated a growth mindset by staying curious and continuously learning, embracing challenges, and improving themselves.
  • Bachelor Degree in Business or Marketing, MBA an asset
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing marketing and media campaigns to deliver business results
  • Strategic thinker
  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational and analytical skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Excels in a team environment
  • 5+ years of brand marketing experience
