Position Job Title: Associate Director Recruitment
Location: Hybrid
Reports To: Vice President, People & Culture (Human Resources)
Primary Purpose
Reporting to the Vice President, People & Culture (HR) we are looking for an Associate Director Recruitment to help enhance our workplace environment, talent retention, and recruitment processes. The Associate Director Recruitment (HR) will oversee the Recruitment function based in Canada. This role will also lead the strategy to continually evolve the recruiting program to ensure success. In this role, you will collaborate with various stakeholders, manage a team of recruiters and talent acquisition specialists and contribute to the overall success of our university's recruitment efforts.
Specific Responsibilities
The role holder is responsible for the following as well as other related duties as assigned to support the business objectives and purpose of the University:
- Develop the recruitment team’s skills, knowledge, and capabilities to source, attract, and acquire talent, and build an external pipeline of quality candidates
- Lead, manage, coach, and develop a high-performing Recruitment Function to ensure UCW hiring goals are achieved
- Create and lead an integrated service delivery model through the leadership of the selection and retention of Talent Acquisition team members
- Implement strategic hiring procedures and improve upon recruitment measures
- Establish and maintain relationships with external recruitment agencies, job boards, universities, and other talent sources
- Develop and maintain effective recruitment policies and procedures to ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations
- Develop and execute diversity sourcing strategies with business leaders, Corporate Diversity, and the HR team
- Lead, plan, and deliver a talent acquisition and engagement model that delivers the goals of the organization
- Develop and implement innovative sourcing strategies to attract qualified candidates
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and serve as a trusted advisor on recruitment best practices
- Collaborate with hiring managers and department heads to understand their hiring needs and develop effective recruitment strategies
- Analyze market trends, demographic data, and competition to identify opportunities and develop targeted recruitment initiatives
- Collaborate with senior management to develop recruitment strategies aligned with the University's goals and objectives
- Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on recruitment activities, metrics, and outcomes
- Provide strategic oversight and consistent governance of talent acquisition priorities and standards of practices, including community outreach and EDI partnerships and implementing relevant policies
- Lead and mentor the Recruitment function providing guidance and support in all aspects of the recruitment process
- Lead the Workforce Planning function by providing strategic direction and approach to building a framework and implementing robust workforce plans
- Manage and ensure the ATS is updated according to defined standards and champion best practices for leveraging the tool for efficiency
- Manage and oversee recruitment channels to improve work efficiency
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the local labor market regarding compensation trends, practices, mobility, and other areas to ensure we are competitive
- Serve as a subject matter expert for the recruitment function, including the tools and technology used for hiring needs
- Conduct workforce planning to anticipate future talent needs and proactively identify recruitment priorities
- Develop and execute employer branding initiatives to enhance the company's reputation as an employer of choice
- Design and implement breakthrough recruitment strategies based on projected headcount growth and key capabilities needed by the various teams at UCW to attract qualified passive candidates
- Manage recruitment budget
- Set performance goals for the team and provide regular feedback to ensure individual and team success
- Oversee metrics with regard to all aspects of the hiring process for open positions with goals of improving the visibility of progress, reducing cycle time, maximizing existing networks, employee referrals and reducing hiring costs
Position Requirements
To be successful in the Associate Director Recruitment position, an individual must possess, and be committed to developing, maintaining and demonstrating the following:

- A commercial mindset and business understanding to inform and drive continuous improvement of the recruitment service and delivery
- Proven ability to build positive customer relationships at all levels
- Ability to influence senior leaders and build high-quality, sustainable business partnering relationships
- Excellent interviewing techniques
- Highly resilient and able to work under pressure
- Good standard of written English and high levels of attention to detail
- Experience in driving scalable programs end-to-end with an ability to identify and drive continuous improvement
- Strong negotiation and closing skills with the ability to deal with very complex hiring processes and follow them through to closure
- Oversee the development of analytic-based goals and objectives, metric-based reporting, business-driven solutions, and recommending improvements
- Ability to quickly learn and implement new technology practices
- Self-directed, detail-oriented, organized, and able to work independently
Education and experience
- CPHR preferred but not required
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization.
- Strong knowledge of recruitment best practices, sourcing strategies, and recruitment technology.
- Proven experience in recruitment, including experience in a leadership or managerial role.
- Proficiency with Human Resource Information System (ADP or any cloud-based HRIS)
- Experience in the education industry would be an asset
- Knowledge of BC employment standards and legislation
- Analytical mindset with the ability to analyze recruitment data and metrics to drive process improvements.
