Job Description
Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate will be working in the Brampton office witha mixture of on and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement is subject to change, based on operational needs.

About The Role


The work of an Assistant Manager, Quality Assurance is integral to Canadian Blood Services’ role as Canada’s Lifeline. In this role, you will be responsible for management, execution and evaluation of established Quality Assurance activities, ensuring effective and efficient people and process management, in an environment which fully recognizes the benefits of operating in accordance with quality principles.


In addition, you have a thorough understanding of applicable Good Manufacturing Practices, as defined by Health Canada, and CSA Blood and Blood Component Standards, and in particular the theory and application of quality system elements to the manufacturing of blood components to ensure that the safety, identify, purity, potency, and accessibility requirements of all products and services offered by Canadian Blood Services are met.


Key Responsibilities Include:


  • Participates in initiatives that improve processes and services including development, implementation, monitoring and improvement.
  • Assists with ensuring the reporting of quality issues and process performance to ensure a state of control and compliance to requirements/specifications is maintained.
  • Provides on-going support to ensure a state of control and compliance with requirements and specifications is achieved.
  • Manages Quality Assurance staff, department and budget, in collaboration with the Manager, Quality Assurance, to ensure effective and efficient use of resources in a positive working environment in which staff feel empowered, challenged and engaged.


Qualifications:


  • Post-Secondary level science –based education such as a Bachelor’s degree in related discipline from a recognized academic institution or equivalent professional education and experience.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and an ability to perform detailed documentation in an accurate and legible manner.
  • Demonstrated analytical problem solving and decision-making skills are required.
  • Minimum 3 years in a supervisory or Team Lead capacity is preferred.
  • 10 years of experience in pharmaceutical device or biological manufacturing following Good Manufacturing Practices or in-depth knowledge of a comparable quality management system is required.
  • Proven effective interpersonal, facilitation, presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with confidential material and information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other known software packages.
  • Experience leading unionized employees is an asset.
  • Familiarity with electronic budget preparation and monitoring.
