A.P.S.S.P. COMMUNITY RELATIONS OFFICER


Salary Range $61,135.91 - $90,332.93


Position Available: One (1) full-time temporary position commencing immediately until approximately June 2024.

With a staff of 14,000, the Toronto Catholic is a dynamic school board and is seeking a temporary Community Relations Officer.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize daily work activities with varied demands
  • Preference will be given to candidates who self-identify as Black
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with the general public and all levels of staff
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and car for travel on a regular basis (eligibility for mileage reimbursement)
  • Minimum two (2) years of work experience in community development
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sociology from an accredited university


MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to and under the direction of the Superintendent of Education, Indigenous Education, Equity, and Community Relations, the primary function of this job is to serve as a liaison between the Board, administrative and academic staff, Black community groups/agencies, school boards and government bodies, to advocate, promote and support the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB)’s Dismantling Anti Black Racism Strand of the TCDSB Equity Action Plan. Delivery of service is conducted in collaboration with the TCDSB multi-disciplinary team and/or partnership with other organizations to establish, coordinate and facilitate the programs, events/activities and special projects within the Catholic School Community (School/Parish/Home) and the wider community.

  • Facilitate communications between the Board, school and home, parish and the community in supporting the Boards’ strategies, directions and priorities and responding to the needs of the Community groups
  • Enhance visibility and support for the Board by liaising with various stakeholders and acting as a resource to other School Boards, sharing information and developing networks, etc.
  • Conduct informational workshops/presentations to communities
  • Attend meetings and events, including evenings/weekends, as scheduled/required
  • Provide/coordinate/plan in-services, workshops and/or conferences at school level
  • Provide support to principals, superintendents, parent groups and community organizations in areas of community/parent engagement
  • Identify and/or respond to needs of the school communities
  • Perform duties related to the development and support of school-community engagement
  • Assist with placement and integration of newly arrived students to Canada
  • Provide functional guidance to staff as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested
  • Promote and facilitate school-community relationships and partnership between home, school, parish and community organizations
