Job Description
At EY, you’ll have the chance to build a career as unique as you are, with the global scale, support, inclusive culture and technology to become the best version of you. And we’re counting on your unique voice and perspective to help EY become even better, too. Join us and build an exceptional experience for yourself, and a better working world for all.

The opportunity

EY has an established industry leading Strategy and Transactions (SaT) Practice. We help clients determine the right deal to do, and then assist them in doing the deal right. We are a growing practice that has the resources to serve any client, anywhere in the world. You will have the opportunity to develop your career in a friendly, collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment through a broad scope of engagements, mentoring and formal learning. Our team is gender and culturally diverse, and we welcome people from a range of professional backgrounds, who share a passion for infrastructure delivery. We develop outstanding leaders who team to deliver on our promises to all our stakeholders, and in so doing, play a critical role in building a better working world for our people, for our clients and for our communities.

We advise through the full lifecycle of core infrastructure projects and public-private partnerships across Canada and globally, from strategy, policy and business case development, transactions, ongoing asset management, renewal and disposal. Our work is across asset classes including transportation (e.g., transit, highways, airports), healthcare, environment (e.g., waste), energy, mining, social infrastructure, schools, and municipal facilities. In Toronto you will join a team advising at the forefront of some of the largest and highest profile Canadian and local projects such as the Ontario Line Subway (ON), Accelerated High Speed Internet Program (ON), Capital Line Light Rail Transit (AB), VIA High Frequency Rail (ON/QC), Corner Brook Acute Care Hospital (NL), Trillium Health Partners M-Site (ON) Halifax Heating & Municipal Services Upgrade Project (NS) and Iona Wastewater Treatment Plant (BC).

Our practice is trusted by public sector ministries and agencies, as well as by private sector bidders, for its expertise in strategy and business case development, commercial and risk advisory, financing, transaction structuring, modeling and management of procurement processes, as well as for advising through the full infrastructure lifecycle. We are regularly named by our industry peers as Infrastructure Financial Advisor of the Year in Canada and the Americas.

Your Key Responsibilities

As an Analyst, you will have the opportunity to work within our SaT Infrastructure Advisory practice. You will have an integral role that involves working closely with other members of the rapidly growing national Infrastructure Advisory team to execute a variety of engagements related to the planning, development, delivery and operations of major infrastructure projects.

Skills And Attributes For Success

You are:

  • Seeking a dynamic role with a mix of strategy, policy, commercial and financial and technical advisory
  • Able to prepare clearly written, quality drafts of reports and presentations for client submissions and meetings
  • Able to competently undertake thoughtful quantitative and/or qualitative analysis, with a willingness to learn or develop your analytical skills, and a strong level of technological literacy, including the construction of complex financial models
  • Highly motivated and energized by participating in projects involving development of critical national infrastructure assets that have a tangible and lasting impact on society
  • Able to research and analyze information from a range of sources including financial, commercial, public policy, academic and industry sources to be used in competitive analysis, industry analysis, financial and non-financial scenario analysis and negotiation support, and various other applications
  • An analytical and creative thinker, who is self-motivated and intellectually curious
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, and flexible in your approach to supporting clients, and working with different stakeholders
  • Interested in growing in terms of sales and business development, contributing to executing EY’s “go-to-market” client development strategy
  • Enthusiastic, personable, and collaborative with a strong work ethic
  • Self-motivated and trusted to deliver. You are organized with strong self and team management skills, and able to simultaneously manage and execute on multiple assignments

To qualify for the role you must have

  • Strong analytical skills and capability to provide quality deliverables with an attention to detail
  • 2+ years of work experience in an infrastructure related field or relevant experience in commercial, financial, economic, strategic, and/or infrastructure policy analysis
  • Undergraduate degree (business, commerce, law, economics or engineering);
  • Strong interest in support the development and delivery of a broad range of critical infrastructure
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills for a range of audiences

Some or all of the following are considered desirable, but not mandatory:

  • Working knowledge of accounting concepts and principles (CPA not required)
  • Working knowledge of debt financing and capital markets and/or project financing markets
  • Working knowledge of the infrastructure delivery lifecycle, with relevant experience in one or more of strategy and business case development, commissioning and procurement, transactions, asset management and disputes.
  • An MBA/Master’s degree/CFA/CBV

Working knowledge of capital project procurement models (DBB, DB, CMAR, IPD, PDB, P3, etc.)

What We Look For

We are looking for candidates who are highly motivated, analytical, creative thinkers with a passion for infrastructure and have a very strong attention to detail, and a natural curiosity. Being a strong team player is critical with the ability to adapt to changing requirements or deadlines in support of our clients’ goals.
