Position Summary
This position is Hybrid Victoria, BC.
Thales is hiring an AJISS Program Engineer, based in Victoria, BC, is to support the AJISS Service Delivery team with the management of defects for the Arctic and Offshore Patrol Vessels (AOPVs) and Joint Support Ships (JSS).
The AJISS Program Engineer also supports the AJISS Engineering and Supportability Team with various activities such as development and implementation of Engineering Changes, creation of Deviations & Waivers or survey on board the ships while alongside.
Key Areas of Responsibility
The AJISS Program Engineer will report to the Engineering Services Lead and liaise with the Service Delivery group to provide timely support with Defects resolution.
Assigned tasks are to be completed in accordance with Thales quality and commercial guidelines, contracted time and cost requirements. This includes but is not limited to performing the following:
  • Prepare documented work scopes associated with Defect investigation/resolution, suitable for the solicitation of quotations from external resources such as OEMs, manufacturers, suppliers, testing facilities or specialist service providers.
  • Support Engineering Team from Ottawa for Engineering Change process.
  • Provide direction on way forward during Corrective Maintenance.
  • Conduct technical investigation into problems associated with equipment or system malfunction, including failure analysis and solution development.
  • The AJISS Intermediate Program Engineer will be supported on site by Thales technical specialists.
  • Develop and/or approve technical Job Instructions.
  • Coordinate with other Thales staff (Mechanical, Electrical and Hull Engineering and Naval Architecture staff) and/or Subcontractors to achieve the agreed outcomes within the delegated authorities and responsibilities.
Minimum Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years maritime experience in Ship Repair, Ship Building or Ship Operational Experience.
  • An Engineering degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or naval architecture.
  • Language: English (Essential).
  • P.Eng in British Columbia.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Above average Microsoft Windows application experience, communications and interpersonal skills are required for this position.
  • Previous experience working with a defense contract.
  • Project Management and/or System engineering experience.
Physical Demands
  • Will be required to undertake inspections in machinery spaces of Naval ships involving bending and twisting;
  • Willing to work aloft and in confined spaces on board ships (training to be provided);
  • Mix of office work and work in dockyards and onboard Naval Ships;
Regulatory Compliance Requirements:
  • Required to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance at the NATO Secret Level.
  • Requires a positive Controlled Goods assessment as you will have direct access to hardware, software, technology or technical data controlled under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program.
  • Requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software, technology or technical data controlled under the Canadian Export Control List, the ITAR or the EAR.
