Job Description
ACADEMIC PROGRAM MANAGER, INDIGENOUS HOUSE OF LEARNING

ACADEMIC STRATEGY AND INTEGRATION

NorQuesters are difference makers and we’re searching for someone who will lead the Indigenous House of Learning in exploring, developing, and implementing decolonial possibilities within NorQuest College and in establishing the Indigenous House of Learning. The Indigenous House of Learning brings together a dedicated team of critical Indigenous thought leaders who work collaboratively across the institution to build the foundation for the future of Indigenous Peoples education and to advance strategic initiatives.

Importantly, the Indigenous House of Learning will work to achieve outcomes that will support the resurgence, reclamation, and sovereignty of Indigenous peoples' knowledges, languages, histories, cultures, and traditions. The Academic Program Manager works with the Dean, other senior administrators, chairs, faculty and staff to establish and implement college-wide and Indigenous Peoples’ Education goals and objectives.

Reporting to the Dean, Academic Strategy and Integration, the Academic Program Manager helps to integrate planning and achievement towards NorQuest 2030 We Are Who We Include as we look to implement Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Anti-Racism, and Decolonial Indigenization work into everything we do.

How You’ll Make a Difference

  • Work in partnership with various divisions and units, as well as key knowledge holders (ie. Elders, Knowledge Keepers), on developing responsive strategies and initiatives that meet the needs of the communities we serve, and the college’s strategic objectives as it relates to decolonization/decolonial possibilities.
  • Provide leadership and direction in the development of a strong team within ASI, promoting and practicing the NorQuest Qs, while contributing to the development and implementation of divisional and program strategic plans.
  • Collaborate with other PSIs, relevant knowledge holders and experts, on governance models that support treaty-based relationships within higher education, and in the development and implementation of Indigenous-led institutes in fine arts, land-based learning, STEAM, employment and training, and other specialized areas as required. This includes but is not limited to credit, non-credit and dual credit opportunities.
  • Write briefing notes, position papers, presentations, and other materials.
  • Represent divisional unit and faculty with various college stakeholders, including College faculties and divisions.
  • Deliver professional development and training to staff and faculty.
  • Consulting and collaborating regularly with cultural advisers, faculty and senior academic leadership to determine vision and direction of Indigenous Peoples’ education and strategic initiatives.
  • Provide leadership, direction, coaching, mentorship, and performance development support to direct reports, promoting a culture of continuous learning and commitment to student and faculty experience.
  • Represent college to other stakeholders such as the Colleges and Institutes of Canada (CICAN), Indigenous organizations, other PSIs, and others as identified and required.
  • Set goals and objectives, provide feedback, coach for performance, develop technical, analytical and interpersonal skills of the team.
  • Build the annual business plan and hold teams accountable for results and develop the skills and capabilities of staff to meet growing demand.

What You Bring

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent direct experience is preferred; however, overall merit will be determined by a panel including Indigenous Peoples. We recognize that there are Indigenous ways of knowing that are equivalent and beyond equivalent to a master’s degree.
  • 5 years' experience in a leadership/management/senior advisory position including experience in leading change initiatives.
  • Experience working with Indigenous peoples and communities, and Indigenous learners specifically, and a strong understanding of “best practices” in Indigenous community engagement.

WHAT MAKES YOU A DIFFERENCE MAKER?

As a difference maker you bring

  • Experience in program or product development and administration.
  • Proven leadership experience and skills; demonstrated experience working with different levels of leadership to engage and influence positive outcomes.
  • Experience in making difficult decisions in relation to staffing and program needs.
  • Experience preparing and monitoring strategic plans and budgets.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with an above average capacity to apply critical theory, and Indigenous critical studies theory, to work plans, priorities, and divisional unit initiatives.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; demonstrated public speaking skills.
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills, and experience with strategic planning and development.
  • Cultural sensitivity and diplomacy skills.

SALARY $111,219 - $139,052 reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience. This is a full-time permanent position with immediate access to our great pension and benefit programs.

We offer flexible work options. We strive for balance between a flexible work environment, connectedness to the campus community, and ensuring NorQuesters are set up to succeed in their roles and responsibilities.

Our Commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

We're on a journey to become an inclusive, anti-racist, and decolonized organization. NorQuesters are trailblazers – we are curious, creative, and innovative - our lived experiences are honoured, creating accessibility and a sense of belonging for everyone.

NorQuest 2030 We Are Who We Include shares our strength and difference comes from who is included, and along with our students we are learning and growing to listen deeply and say what we feel.

NorQuest College is committed to being an employer of choice for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people by recognizing, respecting, and supporting Indigenous people's self-determination through the institution’s work in decolonization, reconciliation, and Indigenization.

ACCESSIBILITY At NorQuest, we are who we include. We strive to provide access and accommodation throughout the recruitment, application, and selection process. We want to create opportunities for you to confidently be your authentic self. If you would like an accommodation at any stage of the process, please reach out to [email protected].

APPLY TO BECOME A NORQUESTER If this opportunity delights you and your expertise will shine in this role, we invite you to apply for this position online by uploading your resume and cover letter combined as one document.

PSST Only candidates shortlisted for an interview will be contacted and we’ll make sure to do this within 28 days of the closing date.
