Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries Inc. (Al-Pac) is seeking a Woodroom Operations Specialist. to work out of our mill site in Athabasca, Alberta. Reporting to the Woodroom Business Unit Leader, the successful candidate is responsible for supporting pulp production functions, equipment and processing of 2.6 million cubic meters of logs annually. This position ensures the ongoing, systematic process of matching programs and processes with the most cost-effective operational strategies to maximize overall production reliability and efficiencies.

Role responsibilities:

  • Equipment Installation Maintenance and Repair – Organizing and supporting maintenance outages, monitoring/improving uptime and driving operational efficiencies.
  • Pulp Division Policies, Guidelines, and Protocols – Supports the development and delivery of Pulp Division policies, guidelines, and protocols.
  • Operational Compliance - Follows mandatory procedures to ensure that work is carried out to the required quality standards and ensures adherence to external and internal codes.
  • Operations Management and Control – Specialized focus on strategic long/short term planning and improving efficiencies within the log yard, inventory tracking (logs, chips and hog), road maintenance planning and upkeep.
  • Coaching and Mentoring – provides technical guidance and support to team.
  • Data Collection and Analysis - Uses data from a wide range of sources to analyze key themes and identify possible impacts on the business.


Role requirements:

  • Ability to prioritize, manage time, multitask and troubleshoot.
  • Available to answer calls every third weekend, with a requirement to attend the mill in person on very rare occasions.
  • Computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Post-Secondary Diploma, Degree or Trades Certificate in a related subject.
  • Considered an asset:
  • Interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure with changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in manufacturing/forestry maintenance and service, including lubricating machinery, changing parts, or performing other routine machinery maintenance.
