Our Opportunity
We have an opportunity available for a permanent, full-time, Full Stack Web Developer to work a hybrid schedule at our Thorold main office and distribution center. The successful candidate will join our team of 12 IT professionals. We are looking for someone with a passion for technology as our team is constantly pursuing new challenges across a large variety of projects.

Responsibilities:
- Design secure, robust internal and external APIs
- Write readable, reliable, maintainable, and scalable (concurrency safe) code, and maintain software documentation for new and ongoing projects
- Implement designs and mockups for new products or features
- Proactively identify problems and make technical suggestions on requirements
- Ensure web development follows best practices specifically for scalability, reliability, testing and efficiency
- Manage build pipelines, CI/CD and Automated Testing suites (Unit, Integration, end-to-end)
- Support the implementation of effective policies, procedures and training to minimize future downtime, and/or lost opportunity
- Raise information, bug and feature requests to the development team
- Collaborate and build relationships with external vendors to research and implement projects or solutions and resolve issues as they arise
- Provide technical guidance and recommendations to other departments/teams as requested
- Develop and maintain mobile friendly, accessible, and responsive ecommerce websites (bookdepot.com, bookoutlet.com, kidsbooks.com, etc.)
- Develop customized internal and external website solutions in support of organizational and departmental revenue-generating initiatives across all our brands (Book Depot, Book Outlet, Kidsbooks, Spark Book Fairs)
- Build internal web-based tools to enable other departments (Customer Service, Marketing, bookfair administration, fraud prevention, etc.); and respond to tickets for enhancements in a timely way
- Keep up to date with the latest technologies and best practices; recommend new systems and software products and services
- Work collaboratively with Marketing and Sales leadership to ensure the successful implementation of internal and external websites across all our brands
- Define project guidelines: language, frameworks, company procedures, authentication process, best practices, standards, and documentation (Contributors vs Architects)
- Train users in managing systems and write user documentation
- Monitor and patch security vulnerabilities in application code
- Assist with managing customer-facing issues that have significant cost and impact on revenue
- Troubleshoot customer facing issues; collaborate and build relationships with external vendors to research and implement projects or solutions to resolve issues as they arise
- Interact with production/live databases regularly
- Collaborate with IT team members to identify strengths and weaknesses of applications/systems and improve upon them
- Apply technical expertise and business knowledge to develop, support and make recommendations for continuous improvements
- Develop and deliver operational reports and summaries of problems or technical difficulties
·Implement and design procedures and practices to accomplish business requirements
·Other related responsibilities as required

Qualifications:
·A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Programming or Computer Science or related field or equivalent training and experience required
·Minimum 3 years' experience with regular usage of the technologies currently used by Book Depot
·Strong understanding of RESTful API consumption, HTTP protocols and OOP
·Ability to work in a high-performing and fast-paced work environment
·Proven ability to stay organized with a heavy and diverse workload
·Strong attention to detail, identifying and sharing continuous improvement opportunities
·Ability to work independently and with a team
·Goal-oriented, with growth mindset
·Positive and motivational
