FRONT-END ENGINEER (Web)

Our Software Engineering Team located in Ottawa, Canada is focused on building modern, high-performance, scalable, and fault-tolerant solutions. Front-End Engineers are a critical part of the Slice Software Engineering Team. As a Front-End Engineer, you will be involved in designing and implementing frictionless end-user experiences that will be the face of the business. You will do this with the latest tools and technologies, including our primary stack of React, Typescript, and Graphql.

Main Responsibilities:

• Design and build efficient and reusable front-end modules that drive module design development
• Build front-end libraries and frameworks to support scalable applications
• Build and maintain a suite of automated unit and integration tests that drive our CI pipeline
• Design and implement user-facing features & capabilities
• Participate and contribute to architectural designs of core product features
• Optimize these features, libraries & frameworks for speed, scale, and bundle size

Qualifications:

• Proven ability in developing Single Page Applications (SPA) using React
• Solid experience with JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS (2+ years)
• Familiarity with UI design principles and their impact on development
• Demonstrated success in developing web applications using RESTful APIs
• B.Sc in Computer Science or equivalent education/experience
• Experience working with Git/Github and continuous build/integration (CI/CD)
• Experience with GraphQL would be an asset
• Experience with testing/automation tools such as Jest and Cypress
• Understanding of packaging, dependency management, minification, compression, code splitting, loaders, build, and runtime optimization. (Webpack , Babel, npm/node.js)

We are based in Ottawa and offer the flexibility to work from home or our office. Although we embrace remote work, we believe in-person interactions are essential. We conduct onboarding sessions and organize regular in-person events and meetings, currently with one scheduled in-office day per week.
