Volunteer Mentor - Ywca Lethbridge & District

YWCA Lethbridge and District evolved when a committee of representatives from local organizations investigated the need for a residence for students and working women in the area. By 1949, a permanent Board of Directors was organized and the Young Women’s Christian Association of Lethbridge and District registered as a society in 1951.

More than sixty years have passed since those humble beginnings, and YWCA Lethbridge & District has continued to grow and respond to the needs of the Southern Alberta community. Housing, homelessness, poverty, domestic and sexual violence, health, fitness, volunteerism, youth empowerment, leadership and a place to belong are all addressed at YWCA.

We specialize in domestic and sexual violence, trauma and crisis prevention/intervention, poverty, housing & homelessness, advocacy & awareness and leadership and empowerment.

We Operate Many Programs At The YWCA Lethbridge Including

• Amethyst Project – Provides support, advocacy and referrals for current and historical sexual assault individuals and their families.
• Harbour House – 24 Hour Emergency Shelter for Women and Children fleeing domestic violence
• Hestia Youth Homes – For youth aged 17 to 24 who have experienced homelessness or are on the verge of homelessness
• Safe Visitation – This program provides a safe, child-friendly space for non-custodial parents to have a visit with their children that promotes or rebuilds a healthy relationship.
• Outreach – Works with clients to help them obtain suitable housing and supports them in all aspects of their lives through wrap around services. This may include, but is not limited to, finding funding, working with outside social services agencies, Alberta Works, Housing Associations and other referrals to community resources.
