Summary:
Tourism Red Deer is the destination development corporation for Red Deer and region. Our role is to be the go-to organization for all things tourism and lead the development of Red Deer and region into a compelling tourism destination that is animated by attractive experiences, engaged visitors, exciting events, and welcoming hosts.
The primary responsibility of the Visitor Ambassador - Marketing Assistant is to provide a variety of visitor services at the Tourism Red Deer reception as well as out in the community and at tourism events. Responsibilities also include travelling the trails on the E-Bike, setting up booths and handing out guides at events, while fielding questions from visitors. The role interacts with the public and represents Tourism Red Deer Members and the region. This role also includes working with the marketing team to assist in the writing of blogs, event calendar and other marketing initiatives.
Key Responsibility Areas:
Visitor Services:
• Helps visitors and locals at either front desk of Tourism Red Deer, on location in community or at participating events
• Will be sharing responsibilities for setting up booths and banners with marketing team at certain events and locations
• Distributes tourism information, maps, visitor guides and promotional material to visitors and locals
• Rides the Visitor Ambassador E-bike to and from certain local events and community gatherings to distribute promotional material
• Keeps E-bike maintenance schedule and arranges ongoing servicing
Event Calendar:
• Assisting to input and monitoring current events relating to tourism on our websites calendar
Projects and Assignments:
• Works with internal team members and external members of Tourism Red Deer for planning and execution of projects and team assignments (including writing some blogs, itineraries, and or written content for website and social media)
• Performs other related projects and assignments as required
Education:
• High School Diploma or some related Post Secondary education
Experience:
• Tourism, Hospitality, and Customer Service experience
Certifications:
• Valid driver’s license and proper insurance is required for using your vehicle at events
Competencies (skills, abilities, knowledge):
• Knowledge of signature landmarks, local hotspots and events within Central Alberta
• Self-motivated, energetic, and outgoing personality
• Takes pride in being punctual and in time management skills
• Storytelling and communication skills written and verbal
• Self-starter able to work well with minimal supervision
• Creative thinking
• Work in team environment
• Troubleshooting/problem solving ability
• Willingness to learn new applications and software
• Must be flexible to work some nights, weekends, and holidays (example: Canada Day)
Working Conditions:
• May be required to stand and/or walk for long periods of time at events
• Travel may be required and must be able to drive to and from events
• Ability to ride a bicycle is preferred
