Job Description

The Today Centre provides a single point of entry to comprehensive services for those impacted by family violence in Edmonton and area. The Today Centre uses an integrated service delivery model, requiring partnerships with other service providers to ensure a collaborative, coordinated, community response for those impacted by family violence.


We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time contracted Family Violence Specialist position to join our team!


Responsibilities

  • Engage in training opportunities to enhance knowledge and best practices within the field of family violence
  • Conduct risk assessments and safety planning with clients to determine appropriate safety measures
  • Work collaboratively with partners and community stakeholders
  • Determine needs and provide appropriate information and referral for clients in need of further services
  • Deliver information sessions to newcomer and immigrant individuals
  • Identify barriers experienced by clients and make plans to address them
  • Facilitate access to community agencies; advocate for service where appropriate
  • Participate in committees, community meetings, tours, and events, as approved by the Team Lead, which enhance the coordinated community response and integration of services
  • Keep accurate and concise client case notes, details, and statistics
  • Provide virtual, telephone, and/or in-person intake, assessment, emotional short-term support, education, and information services to clients; assigning client files accordingly
  • Identify opportunities for program development that better serve the needs of clients
  • Facilitate psycho-educational groups for individual impacted by family violence
  • Participate in regularly scheduled case consultation meetings with community partners
  • Assist clients when transferring to ongoing community services


Ideal Candidate Would Possess the Following Qualifications

  • Experience in providing client support in a community or court setting
  • Ability to follow ethical practices in accordance with the Alberta College of Social Workers Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, presentation, and strong computer skills
  • Minimum two year front-line experience working in family violence services or programs
  • MUST have experience in intake and assessment, crisis intervention, motivational interviewing, risk assessment, safety planning, and client-centered and trauma-informed practices
  • Knowledge of community resources and experience in system navigation in the field of family violence
  • Possess a reliable vehicle and valid Class 5 Alberta Government of Operators Licence
  • Experience in group facilitation
  • Experience working with vulnerable and diverse populations. Experience working with newcomers and immigrants and an additional language would be considered assets
  • Minimum post-secondary degree in related Human Services. A Bachelor of Social Work and registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers is preferred. A combination of related education and 3 - 5 years of experience working in the field may be considered.

  • Salary range for this position is $51,375 - $57,854 annually*
  • Receive 15 paid vacation days and 12 paid wellness days a year*
  • Option to work partially from home upon completion of the probationary period

  • Work with a close-knit, dynamic, and welcoming team
  • Regular 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday- Friday work week. No evenings or weekends


*Please note that this position is under contract until August 15, 2024, as it is filling a maternity leave vacancy.
