University Preparation Instructor (Sessional) Fall 2023

Position Overview

The ideal candidate will be capable of teaching the following UPRE course:

• UPRE 099 – University Preparation: This full-time course (10 hours per week) teaches the tools students need to be successful in post-secondary education. Topics include goal setting, time management, studying, note-taking, reading, writing, and oral communication. Students suspended from the College due to academic performance (low GPA) may be reinstated on successfully completing UPRE 099.

Our ideal candidate will have a passion for instructing, assisting students’ acquisition of learning outcomes, and applying active learning strategies within the classroom.

Qualifications For Upre Instructor

• Two years of experience teaching the same or similar courses at another BC post-secondary institution
• Able to maintain professionalism and friendliness when working with others
• Experienced with all Microsoft Office programs and applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, etc.)
• Strong Proficiency in English
• Excellent instructional capability
• Minimum of a Master’s Degree in English or equivalent
• Proficient with educational technology, including databases and online learning environments
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Knowledge, of course, learning outcomes an asset
• Able to demonstrate success in innovative or student-centered teaching techniques on a Zoom/Canvas platform

Our academic preparation courses prepare students for the many challenges faced in university level studies. Students enrolled in our university level courses may work towards a 2-year Associate of Arts Degree or Associate of Science Degree, awarded by Alexander College. Students wishing to continue their studies further can transfer their credits to many other institutions listed on the BC transfer guide. Our students regularly transfer to and complete bachelor’s degrees from the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, and the University of Victoria, among other institutions.
