Alamos Gold Inc. Young-Davidson is currently recruiting the following challenging position to join our operations team:
Underground Trainer and Safety Advisor
Alamos Gold’s Young-Davidson is a low-cost, long-life operation and one of Canada’s largest underground gold mines. It is located near the town of Matachewan centrally located between Timmins, Kirkland Lake, North Bay and Sudbury, Ontario. The recent completion of a highly automated lower mine expansion has resulted in Young-Davidson increasing production as well as strong free cash flow generation. With a large Mineral Reserve base, it will serve as Alamos’ foundation for growth for many years to come. Reporting to the Health and Safety Superintendent, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and administering training programs for operations staff ensuring site safety, loss control and environment.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Assisting in the development and review of procedures.
  • Oversee experienced employees who are providing additional training (Peer Training)
  • Maintain accurate training records and files.
  • Setting up and reviewing training plans in line with common core modules.
  • Prepare training modules as per legislation and company requirements.
  • Collaborate with frontline supervisors on employee training requirements.
  • Contribute to the promotion and development of Health, Safety and Training initiatives and awareness through a team-based approach.
  • Ensure all files are complete according to company and ministry standards.
  • Assist in risk assessments as required.
  • Provide advice on safety and training matters to departments.
  • Support the S & T Department in the induction process.
  • Identify training needs or gaps.
  • Participates in the on-call roster / system as required.
  • Determine source of any gaps and appropriate method to close the gaps.
  • Correct any substandard behaviors, using mentoring and coaching strategies to ensure compliance.
  • Provide support to the business leadership group to ensure day-to-day site training requirements are met.
  • Administration of training documentation in line with common core modules.
  • Ensure all training records are put in employee training files and ensure the database is updated.
  • Perform job observations on all employees in the mine to determine if follow-up training is necessary.
  • Ensure all employees have been properly signed off for equipment they have been trained to operate.
  • Provide advice on safety and training matters.
  • Developing and reviewing training assessment material.
  • Register MTCU modules for accreditation.
  • Deliver onsite training aligned with ministry guidelines and ensuring compliance with company standards and policies.
  • Conduct job observations and follow-up training as required.
  • Prepare internal material and tests for individual training modules and needs.
  • Assist with employee orientation / site inductions.
Qualifications And Experience
  • ‘Train the Trainer’ accreditation
  • Accreditation in government training modules for Program 770010
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is required.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills together with an ability to facilitate commitment to a cooperative team effort.
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail, able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, growing work environment.
  • Good communication skills, both orally and written with both internal and external contacts and the ability to work with all levels of the organization.
  • Self-starter who can anticipate the needs and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a mine production environment.
Schedule: 10-hour shifts following a 5/4/4/4 rotation, steady days
