Job Description

Training Specialist, Temporary Full-time

Information and Communication Technology, Welland site

Union: Non Union

Hours: 75 Hours per pay period


Position Objective:

Niagara Health is entering a time of great opportunity and we are looking for exceptional individuals to be part of our extraordinary team and future to focus on digital health technologies that scale far beyond the traditional walls of the hospital. With a vision for supporting an efficient patient experience and a consistent approach to clinical best practices, Niagara Health is preparing to implement a modern Hospital Information System (HIS) in 2024.


The Training Specialists will work closely with Project Monarch analysts, Oracle Health consultants, clinical and non-clinical subject matter experts to gain a thorough understanding of the new Hospital Information System (HIS) and the associated workflows. The Training Specialist will assist in the development of training content and approaches to meet the needs for successful adoption. The Training Specialists will facilitate go live training and provide ongoing end user support beyond go live - projected September 2024. The training program will include virtual and on-site training and will require the Training Specialist to be available in the region through the summer/fall of 2024.


Responsibilities:

  • Administer post-live, refresher, optimization, and skills-enhancement training
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Follow up on any outstanding questions (Parking Lot) that arise in the classroom or reported concerns captured by other Project Monarch team members
  • Monitor and report training milestone achievements over the course of the initial implementation
  • Troubleshoot problems and questions from end users
  • Develop, localize, update, and maintain training materials
  • Support classroom instructors and/or users on the new HIS functionality through effective facilitation processes
  • Gain proficiency in understanding the new Hospital Information System
  • Administer end-user proficiency assessments and in-system checklists
  • Collect feedback from trainees in class and communicate that information to the Training Coordinators and Training Manager
  • Gain proficiency in current workflows for the roles to be trained (clinical, ancillary, revenue cycle)
  • Development of at the elbow support training plan and training of ATE staff
  • Prepare, set up and facilitate classes/classroom
  • Work with key stakeholders to ensure departmental needs are being met
  • Support end users with at-the-elbow support during and post go live


Qualifications

  • Some working knowledge and understanding of learning platforms and LMS
  • Demonstrated ability to handle a large and diversified workload with often rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines
  • Post-secondary education in Adult Education, Instructional Design, Computer Science, or equivalent business/clinical experience (ex. Nurse Educator)
  • Experience in a health care/public sector preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, Excel) and SharePoint
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles & the expertise to conduct comprehensive needs or gap analyses in conjunction with subject matter experts to determine user training requirements; and develop learning objectives.
  • Experience implementing a large-scale multi-hospital EMR transition preferred

  • Ability to present information clearly and effectively
  • Clinical/Healthcare experience preferred
  • Exceptional presentation skills and comfort speaking to large audiences both virtually and in person
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills; verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • A team player with a track record for meeting deadlines
  • Willingness and ability to regularly travel to locations within the region as required
  • A results-oriented focus is essential, as is the ability to effectively manage multiple deliverables simultaneously
  • Resilience and ability to persevere in difficult situations, overcome obstacles, and reach high levels of performance when faced with stressful work situations and time pressures
