Are you a history and culture enthusiast with a knack for entertaining and educating others? Join our team at St. John’s Walking Tours, where we provide fun and informative walking tours of the city that focus on the history, people, arts, food, and culture of the region. Our goal is to delight visitors while educating them, and we love a quirky St. John’s story. We’re currently seeking a seasonal tour guide to lead group tours twice daily, and this could be the perfect opportunity for students and seasonal workers looking for an exciting summer job.
- May be required to deal with small amounts of cash from walk-up guests
- Will need to coordinate timing for stops at 3rd party vendors
- Deal with any minor client service issues that may arise on tours
- Update the owner daily on each day’s tours
- Be able to provide recommendations to guests for restaurants, shops, or other local sites
- Must be reliable and punctual
- Work closely with the owner/chief tour guide to research, plan, and lead group walking tours in downtown St. John’s
- Work with marketing to create social media content
- Encourage guests to leave reviews on 3rd party websites
- Coordinate group and confirm bookings prior to the start of each tour
- Lead a group of visitors through a twice daily 3km tour route, telling pre-determined stories, facts, and mentioning points of interest at each stop
- Keep guests together, safe, and entertained throughout each tour
- Good spatial awareness to avoid impeding pedestrian or vehicle traffic
- Must be a personable and clear communicator, able to hold the attention of a group
- Passion for history, culture, and entertaining others
- We encourage authenticity and want our guide to let their personality shine
- Reliable and punctual
- English fluency required
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the owner/chief tour guide
- Theatre or teaching experience is a bonus but not necessary
- Excellent communication skills and ability to engage with a diverse group of guests
- Must be authorized to work in Canada
- Potential for creativity and input in tour development
