Job Description
The Food Bank Worker provides support to the food bank and CFS programs provided by Burlington Community and Faily Services.
  • The successful job applicant will have completed High School.
  • Your supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule.

  • This is a temporary full-time position based on 35 hours per week.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.   • Be available for full 8 weeks of program.
  • Ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Assist with ensuring that the Food Bank is maintained in regard to organization, appearance, maintenance and general cleanliness and safety as recommended by Public Health etc.
  • This position is funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
  • Self-motivated/disciplined.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures. Perform other work-related duties as required. WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Aid with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting donations of food for the Food Bank program and assist with preparing donated items for distribution.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Ensure that all clients are treated with dignity and respect.
  • Record statistical data in a clear, organized, and accurate manner. Health and Safety
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required.
  • Receive phone calls for food bank intake.
  • Working environment is typically in the office in generally agreeable conditions.
  • Ability to lift/move more than 25 lbs. and this job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently; working in a standing position for long periods of time.
  • Is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*: and, * have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. *
  • Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills.
  • International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:
  • Is between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment.
  • Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification when dealing with clients.
  • Maintain food bank stock, cleanliness, tidiness, and organization of food bank area, if needed assist with food drives.
  • Adherence to all health and safety standards.
