Job Description
What You’ll Do


The Team Lead Development Planning is a solution and action orientated retailer at heart who places emphasis on delivering strong team results through strong project management, articulation of strategy, innovation and process improvement. The Team Lead is responsible for the timely management and quality delivery of the major capital project schedule for all CTR store projects ensuring they are financially sound, translate business strategy, improve the customer experience, store operations and drive overall sales. The Team Lead will accomplish this by leading and coaching a team of Development Planners to create multiple accurate and detailed buildings.


  • Ensure accurate and quality detailed plans and for building architecture, electrical and structural plans. Providing architectural recommendations to Real Estate & Construction and architects on building decisions for any element that does not fit current retail strategy
  • Establish and maintain trusting relationships with Associate Dealers, Senior Management and key cross functional groups. Work closely with external parties such as architects and engineers.
  • Plan, build or direct drawings of various store tests, complex store specific plans and or store renewal enhancements through AutoCAD
  • Lead a team of Development Planners to analyze and interpret key performance indicators to create accurate, actionable detailed and fact-based store specific retail floor plans consistent with the prototypical concept retail plans
  • Continuously focus and implement process improvements to increase planning efficiencies, overall quality measures and cross functional team integration efficiencies including developing roles and responsibilities
  • Train and coach new Development Planners
  • Plan and manage the Network major project schedule and the day to day quality production and development of all CTR store specific projects ensuring they deliver on strategy, time and budget
  • Review and prepare timely, detailed and accurate store specific presentation documents outlining trade area demographics, local competition, market spend, overall store sales, category sales, sales opportunities, store retail and warehouse sqft’s and category performance of project stores


What You Bring


  • In depth experience in project management and process improvement
  • Proven leadership experience, proven ability to manage a team of direct or indirect reports in a fast paced and diverse environment
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate and influence
  • Strong relationship management, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Minimum 5+ years progressive retail acumen, primarily Canadian Tire (merchandising and store operations)
  • Highly motivated with commitment and passion to achieve results
  • Bilingual English/French an asset
  • University degree or college diploma required
  • AutoCad experience is a must
  • Excellent organizational and time management ability
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
