Job Description
Position Summary

Administrative Component


In accordance with established vision and values of the organization, and in conjunction with the Chief Technologist, Regional Director Diagnostic Services, Health Service Area (or designate) and/or the Northern Health Radiation Safety Officer, this position is accountable for the administration, supervision, planning and budgeting of Nuclear Medicine Services.


Acts as the Nuclear Medicine Site Radiation Safety Officer (NM SRSO) for the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) licence which includes the associated duties of the NM SRSO as per federal regulatory requirements and the licence documentation. Promotes and oversees a culture of radiation safety for staff, patients, visitors and the environment.


Reports to the Chief Technologist (or designate) on administrative matters and advises on budgets, workload, labour relations, and personnel. Responsible for interpreting and implementing all institutional regulations, policies and procedures as they apply to Nuclear Medicine Services.


Professional Leader Component


Ensures standards for Nuclear Medicine Technologists are consistent with regulatory, accrediting body standards and relevant legislation including but not limited to CNSC, Diagnostic Accreditation Program (DAP), Worksafe BC and Transport Canada. Provides clinical guidance to the Nuclear Medicine Technologists practicing in the facility and oversees the NM Radiation Protection Program at the Site. Advises Chief Technologist (or designate) on matters regarding Nuclear Medicine practices and regulation compliance.


Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 16:00


Fort St. John Hospital and Health Centre is a 46-bed hospital with 115 residential care beds in the adjoining Peace Villa Care Home. They have two state of the art operating rooms, ambulatory clinics including cancer care and hemodialysis, emergency and ICU, a birthing centre with single maternity rooms for labour, delivery, and post-partum.


Fort St. John is located above the Peace River Valley, and has a diverse population of 21,000 (2021) and serves an area of approximately 69,000. Qualfications


  • Four years recent related experience including one year of supervisory/management experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Completion of a Radiation Safety Officer course from a recognized program for use of radioactive materials under CNSC regulations or equivalent level of education and Certified as the Nuclear Medicine Site RSO as designated by CNSC
  • Successful completion of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program.
  • Current certification with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT).
