Job Description

Senior Financial Analyst – Reporting
The Senior Financial Analyst, Reporting is part of the reporting team that consolidates and analyzes the results of Extendicare's lines of business and prepares reports for internal and external purposes. The reporting team analyzes new accounting issues and offers input into related accounting treatment.
The successful candidate will bring critical thinking, a strong attention to detail and a desire to “dig in” to learn the business while being mindful of the strong culture and commitment of the Company to provide the best care possible for our patients and residents across Canada.
As a senior financial analyst
Reporting
  • Assist in the preparation of interim and annual consolidated financial statements and note disclosures, as well as other company filings such as the MD&A;
  • Prepare quarterly presentation materials to senior management and board of directors.
  • Prepare and review consolidated results, including detailed analysis of the impact of new IFRS standards on the company's financial statements and other filings;
Analysis & Critical Thinking
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts, including standardizing and automating processes and calculations across the business, reviewing ICOFR audit findings, and various ad hoc projects.
  • Offer insights and conclusions on impact of IFRS standards on the company's reporting and accounting, including providing guidance to business units, business partners, and corporate teams, on accounting, reporting, and policy-related issues, based on IFRS research;
Workday ERP
  • Assist in completing required data conversion post-Workday implementation including trial balance and consolidation data;
  • Ensure Workday controls and processes are in accordance with policies and standards.
  • Work to ensure that the reporting and consolidation modules are ready for future reporting cycles;
Other
  • Work interdepartmentally with the business to address any process issues, answer and resolve queries, and provide supporting analysis and documentation;
  • Promote the use and understanding of systems and procedures and ensures that reporting meets management needs.
Leadership
  • Responsible for execution of internal control framework for functional area, by continuously evaluating and testing internal controls, including identification of improvement opportunities;
  • Identify and implement solutions to streamline processes and reduce turnaround times;
  • Support internal and external auditors where required;
  • Maintain knowledge of accounting and regulatory requirements and raise risks when applicable;
  • Develop and monitor business performance metrics;
  • Manages and contributes to special projects as directed by leadership.
  • Collaborate, build, and maintain relationships with operational leaders across the business, districts, and branches;
  • Leverage financial, business, and Workday knowledge to drive process improvements and create efficiencies;
What You Bring
  • Completion of post-secondary education in a related field an asset;
  • Experience with Workday or another cloud-based ERP would be an asset.
  • Strong technical IFRS knowledge and ability to conduct research to deliver conclusions.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel;
  • Effective communication, both written and oral;
  • Audit experience at a top public accounting firm with Canadian public company experience;
  • Enrolled in or completed the CPA program;
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities, effective time-management skills;
  • Superior problem-solving skills;
  • Previous experience working in a team is preferred;
  • Experience with financial statement reporting tools;
  • 5 Years of experience in accounting; experience with a full procure-to-pay process would be an asset;
A successful candidate will be currently on the pathway to qualifying for their CPA designation and/or has passed their Common Final Examination, with strong IFRS accounting knowledge, and who has had public company audit experience at a top public accounting firm. The individual should have had hands-on experience with complex accounting issues and preparing or reviewing financial statements and other public company reporting documents. This role requires strong digital literacy in the MS Office Suite; previous experience with ERP software such as Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) or WorkDay and financial reporting applications such as WDesk (Workiva) is an asset.
