The Specialist, Government Compliance position is located in the Richmond Hill office and will be on a hybrid work arrangement, reporting directly to the Manager, Government Compliance.
The purpose of this position is primarily to develop and maintain government compliance safety and environmental regulations, through reporting and information gathering processes required by the Canadian governing bodies. The subject matters will include first and foremost Chemicals Management under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA). There are also various widening responsibilities under Industry, Science, Economic Development Canada (ISED: such as evolving right-to-repair legislation), EV battery materials responsibilities, and wireless communication standards for connected and automated vehicles such as Radio-Standards Specifications (RSS) & Interference Causing Equipment Standards (ICES).
Essential Duties include (but are not limited to):
· Coordinate development of recalls and campaigns for the Canadian market
· Represent Mazda Canada as a member of the Technical Subcommittee within the Global Automakers of Canada Association
· Work collaboratively with warranty, IT, Parts and other departments as required to ensure timely launch of recalls to dealers
· Ensure campaign development and processes fall within regulatory guidelines
· Coordinate Transport Canada and Environment Canada investigation requests
· Attend agency investigations to evaluate and assist as required
· Field inquiries from police to assist with accident reconstruction such as air bag data download assistance or other system information in coordination with legal council
· Establish and continually improve processes with regards to recalls and compliance
· Establish and deliver reporting as required to government and or internal stakeholders
· Maintain excellent relations with various government agencies including Transport Canada, Environment Canada, Industry Canada and Natural Resources Canada
· Analyze warranty and other data as required to assist in the development of responses to inquiries from Transport Canada or other agencies
· Domestic and International travel as required
· Other related duties as required
Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge & Skills Required):
· Completed post-secondary diploma or degree in a related field
· 2-3 years of experience in a related role or transferrable experience
· Experience with automotive systems and components considered an asset
· Strong ability to multitask, prioritize, organize and complete tasks in a timely manner
· Strong interpersonal skills, effectively liaise with team members, managers and senior leaders
· Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook)
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Good attention to detail
· Strong problem-solving skills
· Comfortable working in a fast paced, high volume environment
· Ability to work both independently and in a team setting
· Bilingual (Eng/Fre) written and verbal communication skills would be considered an asset
