General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada currently has a requirement for an Intermediate or Junior Software Developer within our International Air & Naval Business Area. You will be part of a team developing our Data Management System (DMS) software. The DMS forms the core of an Integrated Mission System (IMS) on a military airborne platform, providing the system operators with the ability to configure and control aircraft sensors and equipment, visualize the system outputs, and use the IMS to conduct a wide array of missions. The DMS provides an integrated tactical picture for the air crew, allowing them to interact with the aircraft sensors through a common OMI.
This position involves high-level software development for a Linux environment. You will work with System Engineering Analysts to understand how the software should work. Modifications to the DMS software include changes to the operator interface, as well as development of interfaces to other systems using a variety of physical and logical interfaces. Software is tested in a number of environments with increasing levels of fidelity up to and including on aircraft host hardware, interfacing with real external equipment or simulators.
This position follows a Hybrid working model with a mix of home and on-site work. Set on-site days (Tue, Wed, Thu).
Within this Software Engineering role, you can expect to
- Prepare and review software design documents
- Document the analysis, design and test in accordance with development standards
- Participate in an interdisciplinary team environment under the supervision of more senior engineers

- Perform software design and/or analysis functions based on requirements and interface control
- Develop software code and participating in code reviews
- Identify defects, resolving issues and verifying solutions
- Present to GDMS-C colleagues
To apply for this role, we require:
Education & Experience:
- Enthusiastic contributor, willing to learn new skills and takes on ownership of work
- Experience using Linux as a host environment
- Experience with object oriented design tools and UML
- Disciplined approach to software engineering activities
- Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages; knowledge of Ada is desirable
- Effective communication skills & strong problem solving and analysis skills
- Relevant experience with software engineering processes and tools
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Computer Science or related technical/scientific degree
- 2+ years of software engineering experience for Intermediate level, no full-time work experience required for Junior level (co-op/student work is an asset)
- Experience implementing software against an interface control document (ICD) or application programming interface (API)
- Relevant experience with software version control systems
