Job Description
Overview


We're looking for senior policy advisors to develop policy and regulation, provide advice to WorkSafeBC's Board of Directors and executives, and perform duties related to our statutory and legal responsibilities under the Workers Compensation Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation. You'll be an integral part of our Policy, Regulation and Research Division whose work assists with promoting workplace health and safety and providing support and rehabilitation to those who are injured at work.


In this role, you'll provide analysis, advice, and leadership to managers and staff to ensure effective implementation of WorkSafeBC's strategies, policies, regulations, practices, and services.


You'll take on projects and work with subject matter experts to research, develop, and recommend policy and regulatory language to the Board of Directors to address complex issues.


Focus areas of expertise will include: Prevention/Regulation Review, Assessments, Rehabilitation, Compensation, Strategic Initiatives and Occupational Disease.

Where you'll work


At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.


In this role, you'll work primarily from your B.C. home and occasionally in our Richmond office.


What You'll Do


As a senior policy advisor, you will:


  • Prepare discussion papers, memoranda, briefing notes, and other materials related to compensation, assessment, and prevention matters
  • Research and develop comprehensive policy, regulation, strategic, and quality initiatives
  • Undertake special projects or assignments as required
  • Provide supervision to departmental staff on all matters and monitor the quality of work performed in a team setting
  • Present draft proposals for the Executive Leadership Team, Board of Directors or other committees for consideration and approval
  • Develop policy and regulation support legislative requirements/amendments and functional practice requirements
  • Design, conduct, and manage complex research and analytical projects with respect to policy and regulation issues, including legal, practice advice, and practice development

  • Gather and analyze information, anticipate and recognize problems and opportunities, create and evaluate alternatives, develop solutions, and make appropriate decisions and recommendations
  • Identify legal issues, constraints, or opportunities
  • Provide leadership, direction, and support to staff
  • Effectively communicate in writing and when presenting information orally to a variety of audiences


Your Background And Experience


  • A minimum of five years of experience in the interpretation and application of legislative, policy/regulatory and/or practice requirements
  • A law degree or graduate degree in public or business administration, political science, economics, commerce, engineering, or biological/chemical science
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • A thorough and comprehensive knowledge of health and safety regulations, the Workers' Compensation Act, and experience in dealing with health and safety issues


Written Samples Required

Examples of documents include reports, research papers, policy documents, technical documents, or briefing papers that have policy or legal considerations. Written submissions must not exceed 20 pages in length. Place your sample in the same document as your resume or cover letter and submit with your online application.
