We have an opportunity for a Senior Engineer who is looking for technically challenging work on innovative projects. You will join our growing Tunnel Ventilation and Technical Services Team in Toronto.


Our Tunnel Ventilation and Technical Services team provides specialist mechanical engineering analysis and design services for a range of infrastructure and building projects, including Tunnels and Stations, Data Centers, Industrial Facilities and Labs.


The main responsibility will be the ongoing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation services including external flow, internal flow, aerodynamics, and dispersion simulations. In addition, coordination and management of different simulation works such as hydraulic network simulations, modelling of HVAC systems, pipe stress analysis, and creation of custom process tools will be part of the day-to-day responsibilities.

You will work in an interdisciplinary and multi-cultural environment, collaborating on diverse projects in Arup offices in the UK, North America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia.


Our work encompasses the full range of buildings and tunnels, including metro systems, railway stations, road tunnels, service tunnels, process and mining tunnels, data centers, industrial facilities, and labs. A selection of current and recent projects that we are involved in are: Finch West LRT, High Speed 2, Copenhagen Cityringen, Marmaray Crossing, Eglinton Crosstown LRT, Second Avenue Subway, Kuala Lumpur Line 2, and Singapore Cross Island MRT, various confidential data centers, and manufacturing and scientific facilities.


Your Responsibilities Will Include, But Not Limited To


  • Manage project team to ensure production of deliverables to agreed timelines and within budget.
  • Develop CFD models for the external/internal flow projects, including 3D model preparation, meshing, solver setup and post-process.
  • Promote the use of new tools and sustainable ventilation solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior members of the team.
  • Production of presentations, reports, and preparing and coordinating flow of information.
  • Handle the production of schematics and general arrangement drawings, reports, and preparing and coordinating specifications.
  • Work with Clients on becoming their trusted advisor not only on individual projects but in developing relationship that carries their trust to future.


Qualifications


  • Highly motivated and willing to take on new challenges
  • 5-7 years of experience related to the field of tunnel ventilation system design.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team-based working
  • Preparation of technical reports in different phases of engineering, design development, design reports and technical analysis.
  • The ability to prioritize effectively, handle deadlines and exceptional organization skills required for our rapidly changing environment
  • Demonstrable experience of one-dimensional analysis of tunnel networks using IDA Tunnel, SES, or similar software and / or computational fluid dynamics.
  • Demonstrable experience of using CFD codes such as FDS, ANSYS FLUENT/CFX, OpenFOAM and post-processing results with ParaView.
  • Professional Engineer Licensed in Canada.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Other engineering fields will be evaluated, Master’s Degree preferred)
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements of Ontario and standards such as NFPA and ASHRAE for transit sector.
