As a Senior Manufacturing Engineer, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop and implement manufacturing processes for timber-based building components, utilizing industrial robots and other equipment. You will be responsible to ensure that products are designed for manufacturability, develop effective solutions to emerging problems and optimize manufacturing processes for efficiency and quality. You will also be responsible for developing and maintaining manufacturing process documentation, including standard operating procedures, work instructions, and quality control plans.


Education & Qualifications, Required:


  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with the AGEBC
  • Post-secondary education in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering, or related field
Skills & Experience, Required:


  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances (GD&T) and their application in multi-component assemblies
  • Experience with project management and planning is desirable
  • Strong technical background in manufacturing processes and equipment, quality control, and project management
  • Proven working experience in mechanical engineering
  • 5 to 10 years of progressive experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Proficient with root cause analysis and correction
  • Experience with digital manufacturing processes
  • Experience collaborating with design engineers to optimize parts and processes for manufacture
  • Familiarity with principles of design for manufacturing and assembly (DfMA)
  • Strong experience with product lifecycle management (PLM), finite element analysis (FEA), and computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
  • 3+ years of experience with the planning and implementation of industrial robots
  • Experience with mentoring junior staff
  • Experience in hands-on mechanical assembly of components (fabrication, welding, pneumatics, wiring)
  • Experience with robotic system design, commissioning, troubleshooting, and repairs
  • Experience with 3D engineering design and manufacturing tools (e.g., Autodesk Inventor, Solidworks)


Nice to Have, but can be learned on the job:


  • Experience with factory layout & optimization software (e.g., FlexSim, Visual Components)
  • Knowledge of the ABB IRC5 controller and system or similar systems
  • Class I forklift license
  • Knowledge of regulatory and quality standards for manufacturing
  • Level 1 Occupational First Aid certification
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles, process design, and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Experience with prefabrication in timber construction
  • Experience in advanced automated or robotic manufacturing
The Role & Responsibilities:


  • Write and edit technical documentation, train operators as necessary to enable controlled implementation of new products into the production environment
  • Develop and execute verification and validation plans including multi-factorial design of experiments, conducting statistical analysis to verify process control and capability
  • Work closely with the production engineering team to plan capacity, equipment and infrastructure needs as part of implementing new production lines
  • Experience in creating and maintaining PFMEA and Control Plans
  • Create and execute commissioning plans of new assembly lines
  • Design and implement automated QA/QC processes
  • Lead the design and verification of jigs and fixtures. Develop maintenance and calibration schedules
  • Use Autodesk Inventor to create designs and manage parts/assemblies
  • Such other duties as we may request which are consistent with your abilities and responsibilities. 
  • Lead Design for Manufacture (DFM) & Design for Assembly (DFA) efforts on engineering programs and provide feedback to the design team on improvement
  • Comply with our administrative policies and procedures as set forth from time to time
  • Comply with all health and safety rules, policies, and procedures
  • Prepare detailed part and assembly drawings
  • Provide complete and accurate documentation including bills of materials, engineering change orders, test validation reports, root cause analyses, FMEA, machine manuals and installation documentation
  • Explore and develop methods, tools and processes for manufacturing parts and components for different scales of production
  • Lead automation efforts as a project manager or lead engineering, ensuring the success of the company’s research and implementation of new types of automation for prefabricated mass-timber housing
  • Provide input into development of engineering processes
