The Opportunity:
This national role will be responsible for the day-to-day activities and leadership of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) function. The role dual reports into the Senior Vice President, Head of Business Alignment & Chief Risk Officer for Liberty Mutual Canada as well as the Head of ERM for Global Risk Solutions (GRS) North America.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead large-scale projects from concept to implementation with minimal supervision.
- Develop, implement, monitor, and continuously improve a holistic ERM program including related controls and processes. This program will include the identification and oversight of Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and associated tolerance levels.
- Ensure that appropriate risk analysis and mitigation actions are taken to protect the company from material financial loss or other negative outcomes associated with existing and emerging risks in the areas of finance, operational resiliency, regulatory, climate, cyber, technology, and more.
- Challenge the status quo, experiment with new ideas, and develop an industry leading approach to how ERM contributes to the strength and future growth of the business.
- Demonstrate effective prioritization of workload.
- Lead analysis to support Liberty Mutual`s advocacy positions on ERM and regulatory capital related proposals, as appropriate.
- Oversee the development of advanced analytical techniques, processes, concepts, and methodologies to ensure the organization has effective tools to evaluate and mitigate risk.
- Champion and model our Liberty values and Guidelines for Inclusion to drive market leading culture and ensure positive employee engagement.
- Work closely with a variety of stakeholders and senior leaders to develop appropriate structure and strategy with respect to ERM, spanning all functional areas and elements of the business.
- Ensure awareness of all applicable regulatory requirements and guidelines, and maintain a productive and collaborative working relationship with key contacts at the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) and other industry institutions or associations.
- Perform related duties, as assigned, to assist in ensuring the success of ERM, the Business Alignment department, and the broader Liberty Mutual Canada and GRS organizations.
- Lead ERM on a national basis, collaborating with stakeholders and other leaders within Canada, North America, and Liberty offices / entities around the world.
- Enable leaders at all levels of the company to better understand risk / reward tradeoffs that facilitate improved business decisions and strategies.
- Evaluate risk analysis and modeling with respect to catastrophe exposures, capital, etc.
- Work closely with stakeholders on stress testing, scenario analysis, and exposure management. Lead the preparation and submission of Liberty Mutual Canada's Own Risk & Solvency Assessment (ORSA).
- Drive standardization and improvement of processes that ensure timely collection of exposure / risk analytics data.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in both formal and informal settings, as well as proven ability to effectively present technical concepts to non-technical individuals within and outside of the organization.
- Experience managing a team is preferred.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
- Excellent quantitative analysis and modeling skills, and significant experience in an analytical capacity (e.g. financial analysis, product management, actuarial, underwriting, etc.).
- Advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) is preferred, as is having a professional qualification in one or more areas of enterprise risk management or its equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of risk management practices and concepts, and risk-related regulatory frameworks (ORSA, etc.).
- Competencies typically acquired through a Bachelor`s degree in a quantitative field and 10+ years of relevant experience.
- Ability to foster and encourage teamwork and productive working relationships with stakeholders at all levels and across functional areas.
