Job Description
Senior Electro-Mechanical Systems Engineer (Quebec Canada-ONSITE, Full time, Direct Hire)

PASQAL is a major player in the global quantum race. We are a full stack company and the leading manufacturer of neutral-atom quantum computers. Our offerings include quantum computing hardware, cloud access, and software solutions to sectors related to energy, mobility, healthcare, high-tech, aerospace and finance. By embracing the dual analog/digital nature of our quantum computers, we are propelling neutral-atom quantum technology with expectations of delivering practical quantum advantage in the next two years.

We are growing!

PASQAL is opening a technical center in Canada which will provide quantum computing hardware capabilities and software services for North America. We are setting up a team of passionate people dedicated to promoting PASQAL's technology and educating the market on the power of neutral-atom quantum computing.

As a Senior Electro-Mechanical Systems Engineer, you will be part of the first Canadian production team of PASQAL. In this role, you will help to build a world-class quantum computer in one of the most advanced technological fields shaping the 21st century.

Based on your expertise in electro-mechanical systems engineering, you will build and create documentation for our quantum computers in a production environment from assembly of components through commissioning. You will start with the manufacturing of our first-generation quantum computer and then start again with a second generation in the coming years.

Your mission:

  • Transfer knowledge from integration team to operations team
  • Control documentation and technical specifications of each sub-system interface to guarantee the quality of the final assembly (not a design role. Focus on documentation)
  • Organize and control the tests of mechanical & electrical sub-system performance
  • Organize and control the run of test procedures to ensure the quality of the whole system
  • Be involved in manufacturing good practices and general quality management
  • Lead the assembly of sub-systems of the Quantum Processing Unit (QPU)
  • Manage inventory with the supply chain manager and purchase manager.
  • Define, document and adapt processes and procedures for assembly and test
  • Prepare modifications for next generation of quantum computers
  • Be responsible for mechanical, electrical and software integrations between hardware and software sub-systems
  • Control and adjust Bill of Materials
  • Communicate with PASQAL Performance engineers in Europe.
  • Maintain equipment based on manufacturer recommendations
  • Supervise and mentor mechanical & electrical component and sub-system tests performed by technicians while also being hands on as an individual contributor.
  • Ensure Lab Safety based on Canada Safety Regulations
  • Coordinate with quantum performance engineer and participate in quantum computing ramp-up campaigns
  • Be active in amelioration and feedbacks, coordinate the collection and sending to Engineering teams

The facility is located at the Espace Quantique 1, a unique building under rehabilitation that will house quantum companies of the Quebec Quantum Innovation Zone in Sherbrooke, Canada. Being among our firsts employees in CANADA to launch this facility, you will have a direct impact on the company.

We are interested to start with people available to work for a few months in France. This opportunity to be a part of and mentored by a team currently building one of the most promising quantum computers is unique! As an observer of the final assembly of our quantum computers in France, you will prepare missing documentation needed to assemble the quantum computer in Sherbrooke. After training, you will then have the room to express your hands on engineering talents in North America.

We are looking for a highly technical, hands-on Electro-Mechanical Engineer with professional experience writing technical documentation for innovative electro-mechanical system architectures.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Team player, versatile, organized, pro-active, autonomous and creative, to find pragmatic and efficient solutions.
  • Able to anticipate, delivery oriented and devoted to reduce lead time facing highly scientific and technical challenges
  • Experience directly managing and mentoring technicians
  • 5+ years professional work experience as an electro-mechanical engineer in the high-tech industrial sector
  • Strong knowledge in assembly and testing of mechanical and electronic systems.
  • Strong professional experience in technical writing / manufacturing documentation for very innovative and complex electro-mechanical systems.
  • Strong knowledge on quality management and good manufacturing practices
  • English AND French: full professional proficiency is essential (written and oral).

BONUS POINTS FOR:

  • Optical or laser experience
  • Experience in scientific equipment manufacturing or deep tech
  • Experience working in a startup environment
  • Programming, scripting for test development and/or automation
  • Solidworks experience
  • Immediate availability with an authorization to work in France

We're looking first for an autonomous and solutions-minded individual above all else!

Based on more than 40 years of academic research, co-founded by one of the 2022 Nobel prize laureates in Physics, PASQAL is on track to deliver to market a 1000-qubit quantum processor with smaller processors that can operate at room temperature and lower energy consumption.
