Senior Data Engineer - Integrated Analytics

Munich Re sees the use of data as instrumental in making it easier for people to buy life insurance and to expand the number of people insured. The Integrated Analytics (IA) team leads this effort in the US and Canada for the North American Life business. We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to help build and develop our data intensive infrastructure in support of underwriting and life insurance use cases.

• Experience in creatively and rapidly debugging for on-the-job issues
• Basic knowledge of Big Data tools such as Spark and Databricks
• Be involved in reading and writing technical documentation
• Support in active debugging and fixing bugs, while maintaining production versions of our web app
• Intermediate knowledge of the linux Operating System
• Follow a cloud-native approach and build data products with heavy reliance on cloud infrastructure
• Build and expand our ETL batch and streaming pipelining practices using tools such as Airflow and Kafka
• Ensure our cloud tools and data stack are the latest with respect to industry and competitors
• Working knowledge of containerization using Docker and how to deploy it in Kubernetes
• Actively engage in the Agile methodology and work collaboratively in sprints
• Undergraduate degree (major/minor) or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Bioinformatics – or equivalent program
• Ability to perform version control using Git and submit well-structured Pull Requests (PR)
• Manage and secure our enterprise databases systems and Data Warehouses
• Ability to clearly communicate in a non-technical manner with stakeholders
• Collaborate with Data Scientists & Underwriters to understand business use-cases
• Provide mentorship to junior engineers on skill development
• Desire to learn new technologies and passion about integrating them into our data stack
• Exposure in building CI/CD pipelines
• Knowledge of SQL, relational and NoSQL database systems (RDMS) such as MS SQL Server and CosmosDB and complex data modelling
• Experience dealing with different data formats and suitable algorithms for data wrangling
• Ability to work in a cloud-native development environment using cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS
• Guide & mentor junior engineers on the team on skill development
• Familiarity with Python
• Learn about other areas of engineering tools and techniques such as Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), web app development, CI/CD pipeline and web application security
