Senior Business Advisor Jobs

Summary
We are Teck's Technology & Innovation division, comprised of three groups: Digital Analytics, Digital Systems, and the Autonomy, Innovation & Strategy (also referred to as Enterprise Improvement Planning).
Reporting to the SVP, Technology & Innovation, the Senior Business Advisor, T&I is responsible for collaborating closely with the senior leaders within the three groups to drive key projects, streamline operations, and enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the group. This position requires some background in technology and mining, exceptional organizational and communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. This role provides an excellent opportunity to both make a meaningful contribution as well as gain exposure to a SVP's role and to various Teck functions and executives.
Responsibilities

• Providing assistance on senior interactions: Between the T&I leadership team and Operations, the Senior Management Team, and the Board of Directors
• Preparing and Reviewing Internal and External Communications: drafting communications, reports, pitch decks, speeches or presentations on behalf of the SVP
• Meeting & Event Preparation: Leading the meeting cadence for the T&I leadership team, ensuring materials are sent in advance, time is well spent, and objectives are achieved
• Meeting preparation and follow up: Ensuring that the SVP's time is maximally used. Reviewing upcoming meetings to ensure the SVP has all of the information needed to be as productive as possible, and sending out agendas or documents to meeting attendees as needed
• 5. The proxy: Be a reliable ally to the SVP to step in and make decisions (as advised by SVP and at the appropriate level) when needed. Communicate clearly with the SVP and share expectations in order to be able to act with confidence as a proxy
• 3. The implementor: Help to translate the strategic vision into action. Strive for innovation and encourage teammates to try what’s never been done before. Help the SVP hold the T&I team accountable and to move forward in alignment with business priorities, from conception to completion
• 6. The advisor: Act as a strategic thought partner, confidante, and sounding board for the SVP. Provide SVP space to brainstorm freely, discuss options, and freedom to vent frustrations. Be comfortable with telling the SVP when you disagree with their assessment
• Serve the following six key functions primarily for the SVP and secondarily for the T&I leadership team:
• 1. The gatekeeper: As challenges / opportunities arise (that require the attention of the SVP), support and / or handle these on the SVPs behalf. Be a trusted gatekeeper to triage problems to reduce distractions and allow the SVP to focus on what’s most important. Brings pertinent challenges / opportunities to the SVPs attention in an organized, succinct manner
• 2. The operator: Help to establish, follow, and refine structure, processes, and build efficiencies within the T&I leadership team. Help SVP and the T&I leadership team adhere to timelines, budgets, and the overall objectives. Be adept at converting abstract ideas into smooth, executable plans
• In relation to the key functions above, assume day-to-day responsibility for numerous, and often changing, projects and tasks. These daily tasks may include:
• 4. The integrator: Build cohesion among peers as well as across the T&I team and have a commitment to collaboration and agreement toward a common goal. Build and maintain cross-departmental relationships. Listen to people’s concerns, find common ground to build a foundation of trust, and encourage engagement in the T&I vision
• Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
• Helping set the SVP’s priorities and strategically handling the SVP’s time: Helping identify areas where the SVP must direct focus, and identifying metrics and keys for success. In partnership with the SVP’s executive assistant, looking at long term travel calendar, evaluating opportunities and identifying fit with priorities

Qualifications

• Excellent project management skills, including the ability to plan, implement, and monitor multiple projects concurrently
• Flexibility to travel as needed
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence partners at all levels
• Validated experience (minimum of 5 years) in leadership roles within the mining industry or a related sector
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a track record of driving successful outcomes in sophisticated environments
• Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, engineering, or a related field. An MBA or relevant advanced degree is desirable
• Demonstrated strategic thinking and the ability to translate vision into practical plans
• Good understanding of mining operations and processes, with a focus on technology-driven improvements
