Senior Accountant – Assurance & Advisory

About the opportunity:

We are looking to add a Senior Accountant to our team. This is an exciting opportunity as this person will help play a hybrid role alongside one of our Principals as we move forward in building out our new Advisory division (Virtual CFO and Client Accounting Services) as well as continuing to grow our Assurance practice.

Assurance (70%):

• Prepare and review personal income tax returns
• Take a leadership role with junior staff members, including training and evaluating performance
• Manage a group of clients while understanding their business, key risks, and ways to deliver added value; ensure clients’ needs are met and that relationships and accounts grow and develop
• Maintain quality control and apply specialized knowledge to anticipate, identify and address issues relevant to the client’s business
• Prepare and finalize financial statements and tax returns for corporate clients, including delivering and presenting reports to the client
• Lead client facing engagement teams to complete audit, review, and compilation engagements
• With support from the partner or manager, you will oversee and run the mandate, which includes supervision of junior staff and preparation of working papers
• Lead client facing engagement teams for other special projects

Advisory (30%):

As a member of our new CFO advisory division, you will help us build a foundation for a scalable new practice area.

You will work closely with the advisory practice-lead to:

• Assist with onboarding new clients
• Assist with client accounting and tax compliance (month-end close, tax compliance)
• Performance analysis (i.e. product line, project, team member)
• Prepare financial forecasts, financial analysis, as well as maintain the client’s accounting records, including reconciliation of month-end
• Preparation of cash-flow and financial statement forecasts
• Tracking and calculating key performance indicators (KPIs)
• Keeping up to date with our tech stack
• Preparation of monthly management reports

About you:

• 2-4 years of relevant experience in assurance and accounting
• You are very comfortable using technology and helping to develop the advisory practice tech stack
• Passionate about helping small and medium businesses grow their sales and become more profitable
• Entrepreneurial and takes deep ownership of your role
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in French and English
• You’re passionate about building exceptional client relationships, you deliver on promises, are helpful and patient and are always looking to be a value add to your clients
• CPA or CPA auditor designation

These are super nice to haves:

• Knowledge of cloud accounting software such as Xero or QuickBooks Online is a plus
• Experience in managing more junior accountants is a plus
• Experience working in tax or financial advisory is a plus
