General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada currently has a new position for a fulltime SATCOM Operator. This position is key in providing continuous support to the DND Satellite Communications Operations Centre (SOC), and as such, this job involves working (night/day) shift work within Department of Defence (DND) SOC.

Typical Duties

• Providing On-the-job training for new SOC Operators
• Remote Monitor and Control of Satellite Anchor Stations
• Producing weekly/monthly reports
• Coordinate satellite access and de-access activities with DND Operational units
• Collecting and processing post-mission information
• Assist clients with minor trouble shooting and modem configurations
• Answering SOC Phone, E-Mail, and chat messages
• Processing Satellite Access Requests and validating & implementing Satellite Access Authorizations
• Performing shift hand-over briefings
• Logging & processing of technical events and/or generation of incident reports

Essential Skills

• Good appreciation of the customer's facility, methods of operation and sensitivities
• Requires a two or three year College diploma as a Technologist and/or equivalent experience, specializing in electronics, telecommunications
• Knowledge and skill in using computer desktop applications (i.e. Microsoft Office tools)
• Ability to troubleshoot, using initiative and judgement, applying knowledge gained from previous experience
• Experience in planning and/or execution of satellite communications activities
• Ability to communicate effectively with customer at a variety of authoritative levels
• Possesses the flexibility and the ability for quick and knowledgeable response to technical and customer service related issues
• Experience with operation and monitoring and control of SATCOM systems
• Specialized or formal SATCOM technology training from a recognized institution and/or equivalent experience

Ideally you will have experience in some of the following

• Experience with commercial and/or military SATCOM networks
• Previous Canadian Forces experience or working in a military environment
• Experience with large terrestrial SATCOM terminals

Other:

• Must be able to obtain and maintain Canadian Security Clearance and a positive Controlled Goods Assessment. Eligibility to work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
• This position may require the successful candidate to work all or part of their time at a site/location not controlled by GDMS-C. In these instances, proof of vaccination may be required.
