Some Of What You Will Do
Reporting to the General Counsel, the Risk Manager will identify and manage key risks for the organization, including the management of Staples’ insurance program, including claims management and policy management. The Risk Manager will have accountability to manage the enterprise risk matrix, business continuity planning and product recall claims.

Specifically, You Will
  • Recommend and assist to implement exposure solutions and loss control activities
  • Manage and report on claims, including assessment of risks, review of costs and oversight of litigation as required
  • Prepare risk management and insurance budget
  • Build risk awareness amongst associates by providing support and training within the enterprise
  • Manage relationships with third party providers including the third-party claims manager and insurance broker
  • Spearhead the Product recalls committee working with the business to identify risks
  • Working with Staples’ insurance brokers, negotiate, review and purchase insurance programs as required for Staples and its subsidiaries
  • Review any new major contracts or internal business proposals as required that include insurance components
  • Update and monitor compliance with risk mitigation and related procedure
  • Provide Risk reporting tailored to the relevant audience
  • Partner with the risk management team at Staples affiliates in the US as required
  • Identify exposures and recommend solutions
  • Prepare yearly market survey for competitiveness of existing policies
  • Prepare loss analyses and budgets
  • Maintain records of insurance policies and claims
  • Manage the loss occurrence process, including gathering relevant data and liaising with insurers
  • Update, maintain and track Business Continuity Plans within the enterprise
  • Update and maintain the enterprise risk assessment matrix
Some Of What You Need
  • Minimum of 4-6 years of risk management or insurance experience, with emphasis on claims experience
  • Ability to consult with and influence stakeholders at a variety of levels
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Exceptional technical expertise and communication skills
  • Experience in the retail sector an asset but not required
  • Post-Secondary degree
  • Independent and proactive individual
  • Ability to establish relationships with business colleagues on short/long term tasks, projects and strategies
