Job Description
The Quality Specialist, RJCHC Supports & Services will identify, design, plan, execute and/or evaluate program and site (Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre) initiatives to improve operational and strategic performance with respect to all dimensions of Quality: effectiveness, efficiency, accessibility, patient-centred, equity and safety. Projects and initiatives will focus primarily on Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) funded programs/services to support improvement work associated to changes in service delivery and funding models.
  • Proven project management skills to ensure improvement initiatives are planned and executed according to established time, budget and other resource constraints.
  • Demonstrated sophisticated use of various data sources (e.g., external benchmarking reports, internal databases, work load measurement, satisfaction surveys, and quality of work-life surveys).
  • Proficiency in use of office support software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, MS Project, and Access) and in use of statistical software packages (e.g. Minitab, SPSS-PC) and process design/improvement software packages (e.g. Visio).
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills dealing/collaborating with diverse professional stakeholder groups in both “corporate” and local situations.
  • Demonstrate expertise and ability to train, teach and coach individuals and teams in the application of quality improvement methods and tools.
  • Experience with (re)designing and optimizing processes, resource utilization, work flow, and patient /customer experience.
  • Masters Degree in related field (Business, Health Care, Industrial Engineering, Epidemiology)
  • Proven leadership abilities, effective communication (written and verbal), report writing, business case development, facilitation and coaching skills, and the ability to design and deliver effective presentations.
  • Knowledge of effective change management strategies and proven success as a change agent.
  • Proven skills in statistics and experimental design and a commitment to learning.
  • Experience accessing, synthesizing and leveraging the most current knowledge (research literature, publications) to inform evidence-based decisions and support change and improvement.
  • Expert knowledge and/or advanced certification in process/quality improvement methods and tools (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, collect, analyze, interpret, and realize value-add from data relevant to opportunities, questions and problems at hand.
  • Work experience in, or applicable to, hospital settings, and health care and service delivery issues across the continuum of care (e.g., acute, community, long-term care, private sector, planning and policy).

Unit Summary
The Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre (RJCHC) is an HHS outpatient facility housing the McMaster Children’s Hospital (MCH) programs of Autism Spectrum Disorder, Developmental Pediatrics and Rehabilitation, Child and Youth Mental Health (Hamilton), and the Prosthetics and Orthotics Services. Situated on the Hamilton General Campus, the RJCHC has approximately 300 staff and delivers a total of 70,000 on site and community based visits per year. The RJCHC is committed to delivering the best care for all and ensuring all in contact with the centre experience service excellence. Community integration and development of meaningful partnerships are key focuses for the RJCHC.
Schedule Work Hours
Monday to Friday days, (some evenings and weekends may be required).
This position is temporary until September 2024.
