Job Description
Backed by a fifth-generation family-owned company, Spicers is a leading distributor of commercial print and business papers, specialty products, graphic solutions, sign & display equipment and materials, and packaging and facility supplies and equipment.
We’re based in Vaughan, Ontario, with 23 regional locations that include custom manufacturing facilities in Edmonton, Toronto and Winnipeg, as well as cash and carry locations, product showrooms and equipment demo sites.
We are currently looking for *a Full-Time Purchaser* located in Vaughan, ON reporting to the Director of National Procurement.
This position is a hybrid role.
*Position Summary*
Reporting to the Director of National Procurement, the Purchaser will manage product inventories for Spicers divisions using replenishment purchasing techniques. The Purchaser will be assigned a portfolio of vendors to purchase a wide range of diversified products.
*Key Responsibilities *
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Director of National Procurement and Team Leader, the duties and responsibilities of the Purchaser include, but are not limited to, the following
  • Purchase products using best practices to meet planned inventory levels;
  • Manage product ETA’s in the ERP
  • Collaborate with other departments to achieve shared goals and objectives; and
  • Evaluate product suppliers, determine product availability and terms of service;
  • Could negotiate pricing and terms with product suppliers;
  • Could gather quotes, manage costs and negotiate pricing for desired inventory levels;
  • Upload forecasts and monitor the movement of specific product lines;
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with external suppliers;
  • Manage processes, systems and inventories to ensure the consistent and timely purchase of products;
*Minimum Requirements *
  • Punctual, dependable, and reliable;
  • Self-directed and self-motivated; and
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma or the equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • SCMA designation desirable:
  • Industry knowledge and understanding of paper manufacturing, paper distribution, graphic products, printing processes, sign and display or industrial supplies and packaging considered an asset;
  • Excellent teamwork and team building skills;
  • Purchasing experience an asset:
  • Excellent customer service skills;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Strong skills with Excel and Outlook and proficient with other MS Office products;
  • Strong problem solving skills;
  • Strong communication skills (both oral and written);
  • Good mathematical skills;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Strong organization and time-management skills;
*Working Conditions*
  • Ability to work in a busy, open area office;
  • Able to work on a computer for numerous hours which may result in strain on wrists, eyes, back, etc.;
  • May have to spend long hours in concentration which requires attention to detail and high levels of accuracy;
  • This position faces a number of deadlines which may cause stress; and
  • Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
