Job Description
Position Overview


Johns Manville is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Project Manager located in Innisfail, Alberta. The Project Manager shall develop, monitor, and ensure compliance with best practices to ensure excellence in projects execution and appropriate staffing levels for projects and initiatives. This position shall work within a cross-functional plant team to achieve plant goals within the facility. The Project Manager position has cross-discipline engineering capabilities and a solid understanding of engineering design principles, practices, procedures and manufacturing processes.


Your Day To Day


  • Develop, implement, monitor and ensure compliance with policies and procedures for the group, drive change, and improve efficiencies and effectiveness of the project engineering discipline at JM
  • Review, provide oversight and manage external engineering resources and consultants and contractors as needed to meet project objectives.
  • Work with Innisfail’s finance leader and project engineers to develop, review and present in-depth expected manufacturing costs, both fixed and variable, and ensure these estimates are realized through the projects.
  • Ensure a robust safety culture is maintained with strong engineering design and review procedures implemented, refined and updated, driving a zero-incident project and manufacturing environment
  • Drive, participate in, and support team navigation through the supply chain process, bidding, evaluating, contractor selection, and risk mitigation through smart contracting.
  • Able to perform and/or review detailed engineering in one or more disciplines for all aspects of projects.
  • Responsible for the design of environmentally compliant engineering processes and specification of environmentally compliant manufacturing equipment ensuring that all environmental procedures and permit requirements are considered and addressed in the design and that potential environmental issues are identified and addressed during project execution.
  • Provide tactical direction and strong leadership and ownership to Innisfail’s project team as it relates to capital project execution and related areas while driving continuous improvement, standardization, best practices, root cause analysis, document organization and management and internal and external benchmarking comparisons
  • Review, guide and support project engineers their development of project conceptual designs, justifications, scopes, specifications, schedules for capital projects <$10M, especially related to manufacturing technologies, manufacturing equipment, and plant expansions.
  • Lead and mentor Innisfail project group by helping set direction, provide mentoring, career advice, and training
  • Review, guide and support project engineers in their project feasibility studies and business cases that accurately identify project benefits, risks and returns, expected manufacturing costs for capital projects <$10M, especially projects related to manufacturing technologies, manufacturing equipment, and plant expansions.
What You Bring To The Team
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and experience developing, monitoring and implementing engineering procedures, practices, tools, and methodologies.
  • BS in Engineering, preferably Mechanical engineering
  • Demonstrated success managing details of the engineering function for manufacturing facility
  • Demonstrated ability to provide complex and innovative solutions to project and process engineering problems
  • Extensive knowledge of the manufacturing industry from perspective of the plant and the industry.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities developing, mentoring and training a complex and diverse technical team
  • Strong computer skills in software applications/environments required for communicating, analyzing, monitoring, costing, and reporting
  • Demonstrated success managing capital projects
  • Demonstrated high level of drive for continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Minimum of 5 years engineering experience in industrial or manufacturing industry
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, negotiating skills, and process troubleshooting skills.
Additional Consideration Given To Those With
  • Thorough understanding of control systems engineering
  • Proficient in project scheduling software (MS Project or others)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing, reviewing, and negotiating technical specifications and contracts
  • Experience in fiberglass, glass, or other manufacturing industries
  • Experience with a continuous process discipline such as Six Sigma/ Lean/ TQM manufacturing environment
  • Engineering Management or MBA type advanced degrees
  • Proficient performing PHA, HazOp design reviews, MOC reviews
  • SAP, Project Systems experience
  • Proficient in advanced engineering tools (AutoCAD)
