Job Summary
Reporting to the Chief Project Engineer, the Project Engineer plays an essential role in providing engineering and project management services to primarily project designed to support the continued safe operation of the Medicine Hat Complex.
You will be responsible for developing projects from the point of inception through the AFE development to the point of installation and project closeout. You will also work jointly with the Construction group for the successful completion and implementation of capitol projects.

What you’ll do:
  • Provide technical support to the Construction group during the field installation of assigned projects. Installations will occur both during normal routine situations and plant turnarounds / outages.
  • Will use industry recognized principles for project management when developing and executing assigned projects.
  • Prepare cost estimates for projects to be added to the capital, maintenance, and turnaround budgets
  • Be responsible for the planning, organizing, cost control and implementation of approved projects. These projects will include purchasing new equipment, replacing equipment already in use at site, modifications or additions to existing equipment and implementing changes through CF’s Management of Change (MOC) system.
  • The Project Engineer, in the execution of assigned projects, will work closely with vendors, consultants and contacts both inside and outside the company to maintain effective project execution.
  • Opportunity to assist with larger projects with more senior engineers.
  • The Project Engineer, will typically be leading projects worth up to $500,000 with some projects worth up to $1M
  • Prepares equipment fabrication specifications for project requirements that comply with all regulatory code and CF internal requirements
  • Provides technical engineering support to other groups on site.
Required Skills
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field of Engineering, as well as eligibility for registration with APEGA.
  • Judgment and decision-making: An understanding of your own personal knowledge and limitations when considering long and short-term decisions and recommendations.
  • Complex problem solving: Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Coaching and training: Ability to empower others through active listening, collaboration, training, education and technical advice.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated knowledge, skills, abilities and attributes to perform successfully in the key areas of People Leadership, Results Leadership, Thought Leadership & Self Leadership.
  • Experience in Engineering or Maintenance in an industrial plant environment.
  • Time Management: Identifies, establishes priorities, and executes tasks to consistently deliver results within required timelines.
