Job Description

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

Under the guidance of the Project Manager, you will coordinate the design and construction of assigned transit infrastructure projects in Stations Capital Delivery, in a safe, timely, consistent and cost-effective manner.
What will I be doing?
  • Coordinate projects to minimize customer impacts, facilitate internal and external approvals , and that design and cost dispute resolution and timely completion within established budget and schedule restrictions are adhered to.
  • Support the team during project completion and commissioning for handover to user group.
  • Oversee engineering and/or architectural consultant services for the execution of infrastructure projects for new construction and alterations to existing fixed facilities.
  • Oversee the project work of consultants, to ensure compliance with Metrolinx’s Engineering Standards, Building Code and Site Plan Control Requirements and internal user group requirements through all project stages, such as the preparation of environmental assessment documents, design proposals and reports, accessibility reports, contract specifications and drawings, and construction administration.
  • Coordinate engineering projects with external agencies including the Railways to ensure compliance with legislation, codes and the requirements of governing/regulatory authorities, including the incorporation of external agency work within GO Engineering Projects.
  • Prepare project post evaluation reports including project cost analysis and lesson learnt.
  • Plan and report all capital project expenditures such as consultant fees and addenda, purchase orders, construction contracts, change orders and cost sharing agreements with public or private organizations.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to address design review comments; coordinate other projects interface.
  • Support in the preparation and submission of tender document specifications for construction and consultant contracts to the Procurement team for tendering. Assists Procurement team during tendering by providing information to contractors and consultants.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
  • Proficiency in the use of project management software and computer applications is essential.
  • Knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of civil engineering and architecture.
  • A college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Architectural Studies, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience providing a thorough knowledge of the theories and practices of engineering/architecture.
  • Have a valid Ontario “G” Driver’s Licence.
  • Understanding of Railway Rules and Regulations and Safety & Operating procedures is an asset.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to work independently and think analytically.
  • Detailed knowledge of project management including cost control, scheduling, codes, standards, specifications, corporate procedures and applicable contract legislation.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience related to the planning, design and construction of transit facilities, interpreting and applying contract plans and specifications and co-ordinating contracted engineering projects.
