Job Description

TheProgram Coordinator [PC]is responsible for developing and monitoring structured and individualized learning programs under the direction of the Program Director and Principal. The Program Coordinator adapts individual student learning objectives based on the Alberta Program of Studies set by the Certificated Teacher and/or Principal. Objectives are established for the purposes of academic success, language development, behaviour reduction, and life skill acquisition.

It is the responsibility of the Program Coordinator to ensure that each individualized learning program is based on the Alberta Education Program of Studies and taught using the principals of Applied Behaviour Analysis and Verbal Behaviour (VB).

Reporting to the Program Director, and the Principal - the Program Coordinator works with the Educational Team* to provide support, education and program development for students. The primary work of the Program Coordinator is to create individualized programming objectives, provide intensive hands-on training and develop appropriate Behavior Support Plans. ]

*Education Team consists of but is not restricted to Program Director(s), Training Director, Certificated Teacher(s), Program Coordinator(s), Classroom Coordinator(s) Group Instructor(s), Educational Assistant(s) and external contracted supports such as Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs), Occupational Therapists (OTs), and Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs).


Primary Duties and responsibilities

  • Promptly and appropriately respond to problems/concerns from the educational team
  • Respect confidentiality as it relates to parent, students and other staff members in a professional and ethical manner
  • Stay current on the latest trends, research and best practices in ABA and other methodologies and pedagogy for ASD students, and attending ASD and professional training opportunities
  • Maintain accurate records and statistics for Janus Academy students and provide reports as required
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to the team, to ensure delivery of high-quality programs and staff satisfaction
  • Developing, writing, monitoring and supervising the implementation of individualized programs, appropriate behavioural intervention plans, transition plans and exit reports, and modify as needed
  • Ensure that program activities operate within the policies and procedures of the Janus Academy
  • Perform other duties and assignments as requested by the Executive and/or Program Director
  • Conduct regular Performance Reviews for direct reports
  • Collaboration with the Certificated Teacher in writing, monitoring, and updating the Individual Program Plans (IPP)
  • Participate in regularly scheduled team meetings, and regular all-staff and supervisor meetings
  • Ensure a safe working environment for staff and students. Follows all health and safety policies and procedures. Works safely to reduce the risk of injury to self, co-workers, and students
  • Ensuring positive communication with Janus Academy families through regular, verbal and written contact regarding program, student’s progress, special concerns and family needs
  • Provide direct and hands on training to the Classroom Coordinators, Group Instructors and Educational Assistants in the principals of ABA, Verbal Behaviour and behaviour management
  • Maintain privacy of all student specific information and staff records as required by provincial and federal privacy legislation
  • Oversee the work of the Classroom Coordinators, Group Instructors and Educational Assistants to ensure these members of the Educational Team understand their roles and responsibilities and are provided the guidance and support needed to excel
  • Ensure all staff and students are treated with respect and dignity
  • Complete assessments, including but not limited to, Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLLS), VB-MAPP, Scales of Independent Behaviour – Revised (SIB-R) and summary reports with recommendations for each student
  • Ensuring the assigned Teacher has oversite and direct supervision in the assessment, planning and reporting for each individual student’s program plan


Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in a related field minimum

· Work experience in the field of Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA), Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), or Board-Certified Autism Technician (BCAT) are preferred

· At least two (2) years experience developing and supervising multiple ABA intervention programs

  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR certificate
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in completing standardized assessments, data collection and report writing
  • Effective written and oral communication skills with students, families, teachers and administrators
  • Experience in the development of Behaviour Support Plans and Individualized Curriculum Plans (VB, task analysis, incidental teaching strategies, etc.)
  • Must pass a criminal police record check
  • Experience having worked with a high-performance, collaborative, constructive peer group
