Job Description
The Refinery is the central part of the Shell’s Scotford Energy and Chemical Park, producing fuel for customers across Canada and beyond. The Economics and Scheduling team (E&S) is the key interface between our Trading and Supply (T&S) group in Calgary and our site production staff, with a responsibility to optimize the processing units, finished product blends, and distribution schedules to ensure energy is available when our customers need it.


The Scotford E&S team is comprised of 14 highly skilled professionals who manage scheduling and economic optimization across the Upgrader, Refinery, and Chemical plant assets, including synthetic crude oil, gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, Styrene and Glycol products. The Refined Products Scheduler is responsible to set short-term direction for the blending and pipeline movements of Refinery products (gasoline, jet, and diesel), and plays a key role in product quality assurance interfacing with our on-site Laboratory and Operations personnel. The Refined Products Scheduler will also liaise with Trading and Supply (Channel Optimization, Commercial Operations, Commercial Fuels, Aviation, and Sherwood Marketing Terminal) to coordinate logistics requirements and set long-term targets for Refinery products leaving the site.


Accountabilities:


  • Accountable for the day-to-day use of the gasoline blending linear programming model to optimize and plan gasoline production.
  • Plans finished product blending, including regular and premium gasoline, jet fuel, ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD), and dual-purpose kerosene (DPK)
  • Issues daily operating instructions to the Operating personnel indicating how the various blending systems are to be operated
  • Strategizes all finished product movements to and from the Sherwood Marketing terminal as well as manages the product inventory
  • Provisions the Refinery Scheduler in determining weekly operating targets for the production units
  • Supports the day-to-day activities of the railcar loading personnel in conjunction with the rail scheduler in Trading and Supply Commercial Operations team
  • Serves as a key interface to the Calgary based Trading and Supply Channel Optimizers and Commercial Operations Teams
  • Lists all finished product movements by pipeline, rail and truck from Scotford and manages all component and finished product inventory
  • Provides 24-hour 7-day support for blending and oil movement operations (Tank Farm operators), with rotating weekend on-call coverage
  • Responsible for ensuring that all finished products are produced in accordance with all Shell and external standards


Requirements:


  • Knowledge of production specifications and product quality reporting process
  • Minimum 3 or more years of experience in a Manufacturing or Refining facility
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Engineering is required
  • Basic understanding of blend stocks, product mix and molecule management
  • Basic understanding of contracts and settlement mechanisms for purchases
  • Computer skills: technical, business, and personal applications, Advanced knowledge in Excel and PI Process Book
  • Ability to manage priorities effectively, balance multiple objectives and cope with occasionally high levels of stress in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Basic understanding of Refinery/Chemical economics and supply chains
