Job Description

Job Title: Process Engineer - Chemical Manufacturing



Company Overview:

Our client is a leading chemical manufacturing company focused on delivering high-quality products is currently seeking a talented and driven Process Engineer to join their team. As a Process Engineer, you will play a vital role in developing, designing, and optimizing industrial processes and equipment within a chemical manufacturing environment.


Position Summary:

The Process Engineer will be responsible for monitoring and improving process efficiency, troubleshooting disruptions, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. You will also be involved in leading projects from research and development to commissioning, as well as conducting research on new technologies to enhance production and reliability. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in chemical engineering and a keen eye for process optimization.


Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on new technologies to enhance plant production and reliability.
  • Collaborate closely with production to validate standard operating procedures (SOPs), troubleshoot process disruptions, and develop key performance indicators to ensure optimal operational performance.
  • Maintain and review process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and process flow diagrams (PFDs) using AutoCAD/Plant 3D for accurate design and planning of process changes or upgrades.
  • Perform field inspections, write technical reports, and conduct process sampling.
  • Monitor key process trends and data on a daily basis, making necessary parameter changes to meet production specifications.
  • Lead projects overseeing the entire lifecycle from research (lab and pilot scale) to commissioning.
  • Participate in sizing, risk assessments (e.g., HAZOP), and request for quotation (RFQ) activities for process equipment and parts.
  • Develop feasibility studies and engineering plans that focus on process and cost optimization, waste reduction, and process controls, while aligning with business objectives and adhering to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation.



Abilities & Requirements:


  • Excellent critical thinking and multitasking skills, with the ability to manage shifting priorities within projects.
  • Familiarity with process design codes and standards such as ANSI, ASME, API, and TSSA.
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or a related field, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in food and beverage, chemical, or materials manufacturing.
  • Eligible for or actively pursuing a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Visio, Project, PowerBI), AutoCAD/Plant 3D.
  • Strong background in mass/energy balance, process design and control, piping and equipment sizing, and project commissioning.
  • Experience in developing, reviewing, and managing P&IDs, as well as other drafting skills.
  • Proficiency in interpreting business intelligence data and trends to analyze and resolve complex issues.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Strong communication skills, including technical writing and the ability to influence and direct others to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Knowledge of crystallization, wastewater treatment, centrifugation, packaging systems, and reactors is highly desirable.
