Practical Nursing Instructor (Vancouver Island University)

Job Responsibilities

As the Practical Nursing Instructor, you will be responsible for the delivery of theory, lab, and/or clinical courses within the Practical Nursing program at the Nanaimo and Cowichan campuses for the 2023/2024 academic year. View the online calendar for a complete listing of our courses.

The Practical Nursing Instructor will participate in wide variety of teaching and learning opportunities and contribute to departmental and faculty meetings and program activities related to curriculum and administrative planning activities.

Required Qualifications

• Familiar with practice settings in Central Vancouver Island including community, gerontology and acute care
• Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record
• Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal ways of knowing and cultural teachings
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an appropriately accredited institution with current practicing BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) in good standing; (required to teach theory courses)
• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) from an appropriately accredited institution with current practicing BC College of Nurses and Midwifes (BCCNM) in good standing. Faculty with this designation only are qualified to teach clinical and lab courses
• A solid understanding of the scope and role of LPNs in the Health Care System
• Proficiency with the application and integration of information technology
• BC Provincial Instructor Diploma Program, or its equivalent, completed or in progress (maximum two years to completion), from an accredited institution
• Responsive to a diverse student population
• Minimum of five years recent medical, surgical and gerontological nursing experience
