Department Summary


The School of Dentistry Oral Health Clinic (OHC) located on the 8th Floor of the Kaye Edmonton Clinic provides oral health care services.


Position Summary


Reporting to the Operations and Clinic Supervisor, the Patient Services Clerk will be scheduling appointments for the Oral Medicine and Continuing Dental Education programs.


The successful incumbent should be available to work 4-5 weekends during the year.


Duties


  • Collects fees and completes insurance and third-party billing forms including coordination of benefits in the event of multiple insurance carriers
  • Maintains electronic filing system; types correspondence, photocopies, and faxes as required
  • Processes CDANet and paper claim submissions
  • Acts as the first point of contact for a large volume of patients providing check-in and check-out services and collecting payments
  • Monitors the notifications of electronic bank payments, enters payments in axiUm, updates patients accounts, etc.
  • Responsible for patient coordination and scheduling, coding entry into axiUm patient management software for accurate billing, patient registration and chart maintenance
  • Processes cheque, debit, and credit card payments and completes deposits
  • Coordinates and receives documents (referral letters, correspondence, medical history documents, etc.), and scans into patients’ electronic charts in axiUm database
  • Performs other administrative duties as required
  • Provides first-level support to patients and students regarding axiUm (electronic health record)
  • Answers and directs numerous incoming phone calls, provides patients with program information


Qualifications


  • Accurate data entry skills; strong attention to detail
  • Experience with POS devices, processing payments and completing deposits
  • Experience with processing a large volume of patient traffic and phone calls
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and diverse work environment that is dynamic and constantly changing
  • Proficiency using information technology including MS Office applications and Google Suite
  • Well-developed organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritize activities
  • Ability to critically analyze all aspects of the patient record and identify any required changes
  • 2 years of relevant experience in a fast-paced Dental Office
  • Excellent communication skills (listening, verbal, and written) and interpersonal skills
  • High school diploma
  • Expertise using an electronic health record system
