Job Summary & Key Responsibilities

This part-time academic will be required to teach in-person, POLI 3493.03, Political Inquiry II during Fall term (September – December 2023), Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11:35 a.m.-12:55 p.m.

Course description: This course introduces the theory and practice of qualitative research methods to study political phenomena. Themes addressed in the course include the theoretical and conceptual implications of choosing a particular methodology; the philosophical assumptions behind social science research; the various qualitative research methods available to political scientists, including interviewing, participant observation, case studies, comparative analysis, and the use of documentary/primary sources; the evaluation of academic texts in political science, focusing on the logic of their argument, their methodologies, and the relationship between the evidence presented and their argument; and the ethical issues involved in conducting qualitative research.

This part-time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including lectures, test and assignment preparation, and evaluation. The position reports to the Chair of the Department.

Qualifications/Requirements Of Position

Preference will be given to applicants with a PhD, or nearly completed PhD, in Political Science. Previous university-level teaching on this topic will be an asset.

Salary Range/Pay Rate Per CUPE Collective Agreement
