Job Description

Title: Senior Communications Officer

Status: Full-time, permanent

Salary: $77,480 with annual increases as per our collective bargaining agreement

Reports to: Manager, Communications

Union / Excluded: Unionized

Location: Vancouver or Toronto (hybrid work arrangements)


POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager, Communications and working collaboratively across SHARE’s programs, the Senior Communications Officer is a talented communicator who can develop clear and compelling written content that informs, engages and inspires. The work will involve collaborating with relevant SHARE staff to produce impactful, brand-consistent, and strategically-aligned content across our various audiences.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The key responsibilities outlined below are descriptive in nature and are not an exhaustive or comprehensive list of all possible job responsibilities, tasks, and duties.

Report Writing & Production:

•Write, edit and produce regular (quarterly/annual) and custom reporting for clients and funders;

•Develop case studies and other presentation-ready materials for inclusion in client presentations and business development proposals;

•Contribute copy for grant reporting purposes


Media and Publications:

•Support the development of SHARE’s overall messaging, as well as program or project-specific messaging;

•Advise on consistency in written word across SHARE’s communications channels;

•Support the development of publications and reports, videos, campaign materials, etc, particularly in ensuring consistency of messaging and editorial quality;

•Contribute to the production and execution of a social media calendar across all of SHARE’s social and digital channels;

•Draft stories, posts, op-eds, speeches and presentations for social media platforms, the SHARE.ca site and microsites, and program/project newsletters;

•Contribute to the drafting of business development materials and approaches.


Corporate Communications

•Contribute to the review and edit SHARE content across platforms and channels;

•Contribute to the development of communications policies and guidelines;

•Synthesize complex material into structured, readable content that is audience-appropriate;

•Adhere and contribute to the development of in-house style and branding guides;

•Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

•A Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism or another relevant field is a strong asset;

•Five years’ professional writing experience for traditional or digital media, non-profit organizations, or in-house marketing departments;

•Excellent English written and oral communication and grammatical skills;

•Proficiency with Canadian Press Style;

•Fluency in English is required;

•Fluency in French is a strong asset


TERMS & CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT


•Terms and conditions of employment are set in accordance with the SHARE-USW Collective agreement;

•SHARE employees must be eligible to work in Canada, you must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada or authorized in writing to work in Canada under the Federal Immigration Act. Eligibility to work in Canada is granted through citizenship, permanent resident status, or a work permit;

•Full vaccination against the Covid-19 virus is required of all SHARE employees.

•Occasional overnight and international travel may be required;

•SHARE operates with a hybrid office policy.Regular attendance in Toronto or Vancouver offices, between 1-2 days per week will be required.
