Job Summary


Become part of a skilled team within the Ministry of Attorney General


The Attorney General is the legal advisor to the government of British Columbia and is charged with ensuring that the administration of public affairs is carried out in accordance with the law. The Ministry of Attorney General is structured to carry out this mandate under the direction of the Attorney General, and Legal Services Branch (LSB) supports the Ministry in fulfilling this mandate by serving as legal advisor to government in civil law matters. LSB provides legal advice to government and ensures that legal risks associated with government operations are reduced. LSB's clients include all ministries of the government, Cabinet and certain public agencies.


The Litigation Group is one of five groups within the Legal Services Branch. It is comprised of barristers, paralegals, and administrative professionals who conduct litigation and provide related advice on behalf of the Province. The Litigation Group appears on behalf of the Province at all levels of court and before certain administrative tribunals and is responsible for all aspects of the preparation and conduct of mediations, trials, and other hearings. It provides key advice to the Province relating to the settlement of disputes in accordance with statutory authorities.


These Services Include


The Paralegal position provides services within the Litigation Group on large, complex, sensitive, and high-profile cases, as well as in areas of high-volume litigation, which impact the delivery of Branch and Ministry objectives.


  • Liaising with clients.
  • Managing witnesses, including experts;
  • Legal research;
  • The management of case information including all elements of document management;
  • Drafting legal documents including affidavits, pleadings and bill of costs;
  • Supporting legal counsel at all stages of litigation; and


Job Requirements
  • Paralegal Certificate, Diploma or Degree from a recognized institution; OR
  • Candidates will be required to provide proof of completion of a paralegal certificate/diploma/degree or equivalent.
  • A Bachelor of Law degree may be considered as an equivalent to a Paralegal Certificate.


Preference May Be Given To Applicants With


  • Experience with the BC Supreme Court Civil Rules;
  • And/or experience with Summation Pro or Forensic Toolkit (FTK).
  • Experience working as a paralegal in a litigation environment;
  • Experience managing and coordinating document production and disclosure;
  • Experience in drafting pleadings; experience with the law of privilege and/or cabinet confidentiality;
  • Experience preparing petitions and materials before administrative tribunals;
  • Experience in high-volume and/or complex litigation;
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a litigation environment;

There are multiple positions available: One (1) permanent position, one 18-month temporary opportunity, and one 12-month temporary opportunity. These temporary opportunities may be extended and/or result in a permanent appointment.

This position is based out of our Victoria office.


Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
