Office365 (SharePoint and Purview) Security Engineer (5 Month Contract)
Location: Burnaby, BC

This role involves setting up and implement a robust security and governance structure for SharePoint and Microsoft Purview, including roles, responsibilities, permissions, and access controls to ensure proper management, security, and data governance of enterprise content. Working closely with project team, and other business stakeholders the incumbent will analyze business and IT requirements, recommend best practices for securing and efficiently governing content and data in SharePoint.
In consultation with technical staff this role will be pivotal in developing policy, security standards, and governance for MS SharePoint and MS Purview environment. The incumbent will also provide technical support for MS SharePoint and MS Purview.
The Consultant’s tasks will include, but not limited to:
1. Working closely with ECM project resources to create best of the class solutions using Office365, SharePoint and Purview capabilities.
2. Understanding requirements for records management, retention, FOI requests and recommend solution(s) for achieving desired outcomes using SharePoint and Purview.
3. Establishes and maintains liaison with departmental systems administrators. Provides advice and assistance to them regarding SharePoint and Purview best practices related to content/data security and platform governance.
4. Develop standardized content metadata models, classification structures, and taxonomy within SharePoint and Microsoft Purview to facilitate efficient content discovery, content search, organization, and lineage capture.
5. Develop a standardized document metadata model and taxonomy to facilitate efficient content discovery, classification, and organization.
6. Helps in updating policies, procedures and standards as required due to changes in use of
SharePoint and Purview.
7. Create policies for Records management, security, access control, and change control for content management.
8. Contribute to the development and implementation of a data/content governance framework that encompasses both SharePoint and Microsoft Purview, ensuring consistency and alignment between the two platforms.
9. In consultation with technical staff helps in installation, configuration, testing and rollout of new functionality and updates to configuration in Purview & SharePoint
10. Design and implement a robust governance structure for SharePoint, including roles, responsibilities, permissions, and access controls to ensure the proper management and security of enterprise content and data.
11. Provide overall Office 365 security expertise including strong knowledge of Azure Information Protection, Information Rights Management, and related technologies (encompassing Microsoft Purview + Security)
12. Drive Office 365 security adoption and lead technical efforts in Office 365 security and strategy discussions.
13. Keeps abreast of developments in overall Office365 applications ecosystem and informs IT stakeholders of changing functionality and its impact on services currently in use or planned for the company.
14. Deliver subject matter expertise of Office 365 with emphasis in security, architectural design, management, and support of implementations.
Required Technical Skills & Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
2. Proven experience working with SharePoint and Microsoft Purview as an administrator, analyst, or consultant, specifically in policy, governance, and data
management areas.
3. In-depth knowledge of SharePoint features, configurations, permissions, security models, data cataloging, and data classification principles.
4. Familiarity with Microsoft Purview or other data cataloging and data governance tools.
5. Strong understanding of enterprise content management principles, regulatory requirements, data privacy standards, and data governance best practices.
Interpersonal and Communication Skills
1. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
2. Experience in conducting training sessions and workshops to educate users on policies, data management best practices, data cataloging, and data lineage capture.
3. Proficiency in data analysis, reporting tools, and data quality management.
4. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
Key Responsibilities/Deliverables:
1. Produce weekly status reports, broken down into daily number of hours worked and by tasks, using the time tracking system of the company. The reports must include reporting on work accomplished during the period and work planned for the next period. These will be printed, signed as being correct, and submitted to the company by the Consultant.
2. Communicate assignment status in a timely and clear fashion to the appropriate member of the Senior Management of the IT Department and other management, staff and other contractors or consultants involved in related IT assignments, as appropriate to the specific assignment.
3. Provide weekly updates on deliverables and impact of proposed changes to timelines.
4. Provide formal documentation, in accordance with the PMO methodologies and documentation standards.
5. Provide mentoring and knowledge transfer to company staff on system set up, configuration and support requirements.
