R&D Controls Engineer

Job Summary
AMF is looking for R&D Controls Engineer to provide engineering design from development to production for AMF Bakery System's products. This includes current standard machines/systems, custom products, legacy products, and sales support. This position is responsible for hardware and software design for machine and/or control systems for assigned AMF projects. The R&D Controls Engineer will work in conjunction with the Controls Specialist to issue, maintain, and update project-related documentation as well as individually. Responsibilities include assisting assembly during system build, machine/system check out, field service assistance, and installation as required.
How You Will Impact AMF

• Design and develop Machine/System Programs in accordance with AMF Standards
• Determine spare parts list for AMF systems
• Provide on-site troubleshooting and startup support
• Initiates and manages opportunities for process innovation and improvements
• Other tasks or duties as assigned
• Design and develop Machine/System Operator Interface programs in accordance with AMF Standards
• Interact with stakeholders, cross-functional teams across the world
• Design control systems from concept to completion. The design and components are to be in accordance with AMF Standards.
• Travel to customer site for installation support
• Assemble complete and accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for the Machine/System design
• Electrical Machine Design which includes all power, control systems, and electrical diagrams required to meet the customer's specifications for each project assigned.

What You Need To Succeed

• PLC programming skills necessary to make a machine function properly and safely
• Ability to understand and design electrical control schematic ladder diagrams
• Ability to specify, and assist with installation, debug, and start-up of electrical control and power system equipment
• Proven project management skills
• Operator interface programming skills necessary to run the machine easily and without confusion
• Understand, design, and practice machine safety and Lean Management.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Dynamics 365 desired
• Knowledge of industrial communications (Ethernet/IP, DeviceNET, Profibus, etc.)
• Understand and have the capability to apply electrical codes and regulations such as NFPA 70, NFPA 79 and UL 508a as well as agency approvals to control systems manufactured at AMF
• Motors, servos, low voltage DC devices, and sensors
• 5+ years of controls/electrical engineering experience.
• Working knowledge of industrial electrical and control systems
• Knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC and Operator Interface hardware and software (primarily Compact Logix and Panel View Plus series)
• Proven problem-solving skills
• 600 VAC and less, 3Ø control systems
• Ability to work well with others and project a good image for AMF.
• A "self-starter".
• BS Degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar field. A combination of an AA degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.

• Be able to apply electrical components to a control system to make the machine run as designed
• Be able to understand how a machine functions mechanically
